At the moment, Nibali. Contador has not won the Vuelta yet! If he does, then overall Contador has had a better season than Nibali.

I would say that considering Contador is coming back from injury, his condition in this Vuelta suggests that his form for TDF would have been immense. That crash cost us a spectacular race :(

I am a huge Nibali fan and i have always been (none of this bandwagon jumpers that became fans of him in recent times) but it is delusional to think that Nibali was stronger than Contador this year.

The Tour had everything to be one of the best races in recent times but by stage 10 Nibali simply became a very big shark in a very small pond. Pun intended

Nibali was a deserving Tour winner and i am not taking anything from him as he raced to perfection. But Contador had more watts and without crashing out he would have won.

But i love both guys so

That's what Netserk meant. If all other decent GT riders crash out, he'll win the race by 10 minutes easily.

That's what i said. Then still some decent GC-men have to crash;)

Tour win always worth 1.5x at least a Vuelta win. Way, way more pressure. More riders peaking for it.

As such, Nibali, no matter what AC does in the Vuelta.

So Evans was a better GT rider than Contador in 2011?

Not the one with better results, but the better rider?

Such a simplistic way to look at cycling. . .

No wonder the sport hasn't moved on from the July obsession, not even the "hardcore" fans are able to do it.

After stage 10 the only thing Nibali had to worry about was not falling down the team bus stairs. No amount of sponsor pressure or journalist questions could influence the result of the race after that. Nor could they before for that matter.

To add to that, who was the best GT rider in 2006?

Again not best results, but best rider. Floyd or RoboBasso (or Vino)?

Jan Ullrich. He just didn't get the opportunity to proof it :D

To answer the question, it's about the whole year we are talking about, let's wait for this Vuelta to finish and I dare say let's wait for the worlds, maybe some guys will watch each other while Nibs will put a 900 Watts attack like in Sheffield.

It is impossible to vote until post Vuelta as the question is 'who is the best GT rider of 2014'.

Obviously right now the answer is Nibali since he has won a GT and Alberto has not. However should Alberto come back from adversity and take this race I will award him the title.

Considering the form he is still carrying now in his peak decline, there is now little doubt in my mind that Alberto would have taken the Tour had he not been injured. As much as I love Lo Squalo he just isn't in the same class just yet.

Too bad we can't post a 2'30'' video of stage 5 finish :D
The poll is about best GT 2014 rider.
I wonder what Alberto could make to be the first, given the field at the Vuelta (declining and always on the ground Froome, fallen Quintana, a surely declining Valverde unless some miracle happens, and other tired or second chance riders)
It seems to me that this vuelta was superhyped but, apart 1km climbs attacks from the finish, it's nothing special...

Ok, I was trolling!!!!:p
Just throwing in some considerations in order to get a different perspective, always useful.

PS:in no way I would rate a Contador win less than Nibs or Nairo's ones. The 3 GTs are big appointments for a lot of team, a lot of pressure and good riders starting to win, so in my opinion, they are on the same level.

Simplistic is your argument. So in order for Nibali not to worry about falling down the team bus stairs, what do you think was the work he needed to do to get there? So in your opinion mental and physical preparation is worth nothing? You must be the worst fanboy, of any rider, ever.

Metaphors and hyperboles, ever heard of those? Also what? Are you saying Nibali's hard work contributed to his 2 biggest rivals crashing out? And none of those 3 worked harder than the other, they all gave it everything (if you think otherwise you might as well admit that you still believe in armstrong like propanga bs) and none, yes not even Froome, deserved the misfortune of crashing out.

hint: those are rhetorical

And i will take the bold part as a compliment, because thankfully i am not a fanboy.

From urban dic:
Fanboy
An extreme fan or follower of a particular medium or concept, whether it be sports, television, film directors, video games (the most common usage), etc.

Known for a complete lack of objectivity in relation to their preferred focus. Usually argue with circular logic that they refuse to acknowledge. Arguments or debates with such are usually futile. Every flaw is spun into semi-virtues and everything else, blown to comedic, complimentary proportions.

Known for using the phrase
"Object of affection = Best Ever"
However, while people only really say that as hyperbole, fanboys truly believe it.

Troll the internet to spread the gospel.

Insult/chastise others for using public forums to express an objective opinion, no matter how constructive or, respectful it may be. (Go ahead and admit that it's a good game/movie/etc. This fact and anything else will be promptly ignored in favor of cherry picking the negative, and beating you over the head with it.

Tend to resort to petty annoyance replies when backed against the wall. Usually grammar attacks and non-replies.
"Final Fantasy VII is the best RPG ever!"
"Ocarina of Time is the best game ever!"
"Linux is the best OS ever!"
"Xbox is the best console ever!"
"Dragonball Z is the best show ever!"

The sad thing is, fanboys don't realize, that these companies that fuel their passion, don't really give a damn about us. To me, defending a multi-national corporation like their your own family, is ridiculous. These organizations don't come to your house and help you when you're sick, they don't help you move, or drive you to the airport. They don't support you in any way. It's a business, not a friendship. As soon as you can no longer buy their product, you disappear to them.

vino, hands down. Because there's no way for sure, guarantee, no doubts to compare Nibali vs Contador without both of them being in the same GT races and finish all 21 stages.

That's the thing, what you call 'misfortune' I call it: lack of preparation, skills, focus...lack of being ready. Finally, working hard is not the same as working smart.

What does 'being ready' have to do with a rider in front of you crashing and falling over him.
