I know he was great at start of stage but why, if OPQS are all in for Uran, did they take Petacchi? Surely another mountain goat would have helped and left Petacchi to go to Tour for Cav.

Petacchi has been a great road captain for Urán so far. Rigo's own words. That's enough of a reason to take him.

Strange move from Roche. Either wait till the final climb or attack from further out. Attack a fresh group 1,5k from the top is pretty useless.

yes whats the point of attacking solo just before a long descent?

Petacci packs real experience, and he can talk to the italian teams ;-)

To be fair to RAI, there are groups everywhere it seems on the descent, and maybe 3 cameras? plus the chopper.

I think he got info that Rolland had a serious chase group going on behind and so he thought it was time to go without delay.

Doesn't seem to have worked out for him unfortunately.

Colombians are the best descenders in the peloton right?

rubiano tried to put his jacket on or off and descender with 1 hand when probaby launched by a bad piece of road and his small frame lifted in the air and crashed. an incredibly stupid move but not bad descending skills

lets not enter Roche bashing now.

He took a chance. either he had a mechanical or he has got fresh orders.

Quemeneur fell back to Rolland and Thurau so there's a good Europcar contingent together.

How's Roche as descender? If he's bad at it, this might just be meant to prevent being dropped descending? Or team orders have changed, perhaps?
