Thanks for the update, first time I'm leading a game here even if it's only tied:D.
Kazistuta and I have in fact six riders in common, so if this trend continues it might come down to Haussler, Voigt, Ji vs. Valls, Bonnet, Kadri:p Very early days yet but still...

At the moment, your lead on projected scores is essentially one mountain point.

Damn. I was relying on Sagan getting yellow today.

And he could have. All he needed to do was to close all the gaps and keep on riding so he would finish in the same time as the winner - even if he comes in last in that group he would take yellow. Maybe the possible stage win + green jersey points was more important to him than yellow. He is a huge talent but I slowly start to doubt his tactical skills. Why on earth does he makes himself so prominent at the front in the last kilometers? He never gets any help because he is the superior sprinter. Why is he not just sitting on the back of the group ans stays out of sight as much as he can and let the others do their games and pounce at the end? Or attacks and goes solo like Nibali. A guy with so much talent should win more big races but in my opinion he doesn't ride clever in those events.

i wont blame sagan too much there. he was marking Nibali till that time. Nibali was smart and attacked from the right direction and with speed.

Sagan-ites have time to earn points till stage 9 now.

He can't chase down everything on his own and I think he tried what you suggested. A 100% GC threat attacked a group of GC favourites and he said it was up to them to chase it down. They said you are the fastest you chase. Had somebody like Albasini or Fulsang gone he chased it but that was up to the GC guys (or their doms) to chase down Nibs

Projected rankings:
Because so many placings are determined by aggregate finishing positions, many GC places changed although the riders' times didn't. Not too much, therefore, should be read into changes in the rankings.

thanks. renshaw was the last rider i picked. i didn't find any interesting riders for the points still left and figured in case cav doesn't make it to paris renshaw could win some points as the new protected leader. i didn't expect points for my team so soon though.

Good move
I had him on my short list but figured that he might pick up a few points coming in top 10 after leadout duties
Starting to wish I kept him there

UPDATE!!!!??? :p

Sorry, I'm very excited at the moment. :D

Nibali is looking more and more like the winning pick. I expected him to at least finish on the podium but he is exceeding all expectations at the moment. He is now almost a lock for the top two barring crashes/illness and I would never have expected him to have scored 195 points (Fuglsang should be ashamed to take 15 points away from Nibali BTW) by the end of stage 5.

Now Contador needs to wake up so that you and I can beat the Kittel+Nibali teams.

For sure, if Contador can get up to 2nd that's going to be 1,050 points from GC points at the end alone! Not even counting stage placings. :)

Biggest changes in riders' projected scores (only riders in the game):
PORTE Richie 118 12 teams
TALANSKY Andrew 113 32 teams
NIBALI Vincenzo 70 9 teams
VAN DEN BROECK Jurgen 60 57 teams
PINOT Thibaut 39 15 teams
TROFIMOV Yury 39 6 teams
KEUKELEIRE Jens 37 1 teams
...
ZUBELDIA AGIRRE Haimar -33 23 teams
NIEVE ITURRALDE Mikel -35 1 team
SAGAN Peter -45 1 team
PERAUD Jean-Christophe -49 2 teams
MOLLEMA Bauke -98 2 teams
CONTADOR VELASCO Alberto -213 32 teams
FROOME Chris -230 6 teams

The damage to the Contador teams is probably temporary: that to the Froome teams (Armchair_Cyclist, BicycleBoy, JosephD, Just Some Guy, Oliveira, the_fool_on_the_hill) is obviously permanent, and given that he took up more than half the budget, terminal.

The 8 teams with Nibali (I know I said 9 earlier: I've found a mistake there) are all n the top 10: the two Nibali-Contador teams (Afrank and Evans) look ominous.

If it comes down to a battle between the two of you, the 7 man overlap in your Venn diagrams means it will boil down to Bideau and Ji (AFrank) vs Schillinger and Pate (Evans). Unless more of one pairing than the other reaches the Champs Elysses, or any of them get an unlikely top 10 from a break, we could be in for a tie...

Any suggestions for a tie breaker?

if it comes to that it's my opinion that the rider with the best GC position in the end of things should be the tie breaker

The tiebreaker is that I win :D

More seriously, I'm not huge on changing/adding to the rules after the game has started. Besides it's a bit early to look at a tiebreaker between Afrank and me. Contador or Nibali may crash out of contention, just like Froome did, for all we know or Kittel sweeping the flat stages might just be enough for the Kittel+Nibali team to beat Nibali+Contador. Leaving all those considerations aside, do we really want to break the tie ? We certainly didn't consult each other before making our teams but the results is that we end up with virtually the same team. As far as I'm concerned, my team is the same as Afrank's and I already consider it's a tie between us regardless of what the score will be at the end of the Tour. Even if Pate and Schillinger outscore Ji and Bideau, I certainly won't feel like I have 'beaten' Afrank. I already find it a bit silly that 'filler' picks might decide the outcome of the game, no need to add artificial rules to arbitrarily make one team lose.

If tiebreaker rules are put into effect, I would like for them to be enforced only from the Vuelta forward because as I said, I don't think it's a good idea to change the rules after the start of the game.

Sorry: missing emoticon syndrome. It wasn't really a serious suggestion.

ok.

seriously though, i dont think we should ever talk about tie breaking at all. having just points is the only sane way to plan this game. if u impose the tie-breaker-by-position constraint, then it will force ppl to make unwanted tradeoffs.

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! Cyclist cage match using wheels as shields and frames as swords in hand to hand combat! I'll use a super light and aero carbon frame, you don't have a chance Evans! :p

Seriously now though, I'd be fine with sharing the podium if it comes down to that. And I got to say, I would have put a lot more effort and thought into my filler picks if I knew they might end up deciding the winner. But that's part of what makes this game so good. Even the most minor of picks might win you the game. Just goes to show, every pick counts. :)

Though not many counted for much today.

Few significant changes in GC or jersey rankings either: 20 point drops for those picking Hernandez and Richeze, and a bigger, though possibly temporary, hit for those selecting Pinot.
