I think we will see big things from Costa.

Easy there, his chances of making the top 5 increaed, but his chances of making it to the podium are still very slim with Valverde and Porte in the race.

Quite incredible after everything that has already happened in this Tour that people are saying Nibali has already won!!!

Because our fate lies in the hands of porte and valverde. Tell me what happened in the last 2 years in the tour? When was that tour over? Yea after the first week....

Perhaps with the bad news, there is a blessing for the race, because it will be more wide for anyone to attack & try their luck against Nibali...
I hope is that the case, so the rest of the Tour could be worth watching still...

I understand people are trying to stay hopeful, but really. When was the last time anyone in position 4-10 not called Contador tried anything serious in the last 5 (or more) years?

I don't think this Tour is already won by Nibali, surprises can appear every day seems like everything is possible in this edition, could end up in of the best with a surprise winner. To say the Tour is over and don't care about it because Contador is out doesn't look too good for guys who pretend that are cycling fans.I like Froome, but i keep on watching with the same passion even after his abandon and i don't think the winner of this TDF should be seen as a lucky one just because Froome and Contador are out,it's the same crap which was used against Wiggins.

point: The winner of 2014 will be even less praised than 2006 tho.
Absolutely not. Two complete different scenarios. Not even close. How can you compare the two?

If only Quintana was in this Tour...would have made up for this as Valverde is taking the p*ss with doing legit nothing

this, in theory. but there is also a chance they hand it to nibali without a proper fight. we'll see.

I haven't confirmed this, but I'm hearing the last race Contador abandoned was the '06 Vuelta a Burgos.

If so, that's a ludicrous amount of bullets dodged. One had to hit some time.

If anything it should make riders like Talansky more daring and Saxo won't be chasing.

yep the weather forecast for third week is extremely hot, so someone suffering in the rain and cold may thrive in the hot condition

You base this on? Who exactly is better than him? The list with possible people who are better is really small and all of those are a couple minutes back already.

someone always improves and emerges

Nibali isnt a pure climber for massive mountains in the class of Contador at his best, Rodriguez or Froome. He needs a course and a field that suits him, and everything to go right as Giro last year. As an all round rider he's one of the best but he's not miles ahead of this field that the result here is a fait accompli

one bad day is 2 minutes and the next group of riders can catch up.

Omfg, Stupid people shut up or leave !

Everyone thats not Astana Supporter could see they attacked shortly after they found out that Contador was down !

Even former rider Brian Vandborg commented on Danish TV2 that Astana indeed attack shortly after the crash, and that it was not very sporting.

Personaly i really dont care who wins the race, but now the race is done Nibali will win if he dont crash, i cant see anyone challenge him now.

Now they will. There was a reason they didn't before. They don't have an excuse and some of them will think they have a chance.

But honestly, that's not the point. Because Nibali looks stronger than the oposition. He looked even strong enough to take Contador. Now He is a clear cut favorite.
