We have our break of the day. The 12 riders mentioned will stay away as the peloton has slowed down.

40km break battle with a solid group going.
Finally some seriousness after the flag drops.

Albasini to go berserk and grab the win.

edit: nobody will chase this.

If this break goes to the end, it will be Rogers' stage to lose. By far the guy with best form atm, even though both Kwiatkowski, Kiriyenka (wow, is he participating this year!?) and Izaguirre under normal circumstances would stand a chance.

But no Katusha rider in the break? Bad strategy, unless if they're all into destroying Majkas chances of the Polkadot the next two stages....

Rogers' first Giro win was on a stage with a descent finish, but I think tomorrow is the only high mountain descent finish indeed. The Tour also had the Mulhouse stage and the Vuelta has the Córdoba one.

Actually the Vuelta has 2 stages with a descent finish: stages 4 and 19. None of them are high mountains (~500m drop from summit to finish)

This break is meh. Almost none of the expected names that could actually pull this off. Where's Riblon, Voeckler, Bakelants, De Marchi, etc? What's a guy like Réza doing in the break? Pulling for Rogers and Kwiatkowski?

Kiri will smash everyone if the break stays away.
Now Garmin chasing wow! Why we have to miss such a great start of racing?
