He will start to do something in the Vogues-stages i guess. If he gets his form underway, he will fight for a stage win or more in the Alpines and definitely the Pyrenees-stages.

We might already see him in a breakaway on the Vosges stages.

Hope you are right, I can't stand to watch Purito at the back at the bunch and carrying bottles to his teammates, he must avoid at all costs to crash on the 5th stage, even if he finishes last.

He will, another 15 minutes loss in the cobbles stage would be wise and logical. One thing is sure, he will be relatively fresh when the mountains come, with riding constantly at the back of the peloton.

And i like the fact he plays domestique for his teammates. Shows he isn't too great to work for others, who are working for him all the year.

Minor things:

1) Rogers and Majka have dropped significant time already. Whatever plans Tinkoff-Saxo have for their domestiques aren't going to involve other people having to chase their attacks. Roche is still up there though.

2) Machado was stronger than Konig today. Although to be fair, this was more his territory than the high mountains.

3) Talansky had better hope he doesn't need the team car on stage 5. It will be right at the back.

One day he will mess up and come first.

Haha nice. :D

@Zam, I was kinda expecting more from Valverde here, too, but maybe he's playing more conservatively these days. Whatever the case, I think that Nibs and Rolland will be the biggest animators until we get to the queen stage(s). And aren't we all glad they're here! ;)

Nice execution by Astana duo.
It was a stage hunt and nothing more than that (without intention to downgrade the achievement). Too close to the finish line to gain a substantial advantage or make a statement.
It was nice to see the top favorites testing the field.
Looks like we'll have an exciting race this year.

Valverde should have countered at one point : either When Froome did it, or Bardet, or Nibali. Staying in the wheels all the time once there are no teammates left (or completely burnt) just wasn't going to work.

Nibali to Vino:

exactly. After Jenkin Road there was no way any one was going to gain (or lose) any significant time on the others. The question was just if they wanted the stage. Instinctively the Astanas played it right : we are 2, we attack in turns. Simple as that.

Kind of. Still not their territory and only second raceday.

I hadn't notice that Spilak had lost time, one contender less for a top10. Modolo abandons as well, one sprinter less, the field is thinning out quickly !

Never liked Nibali (after his arrogant disrepct whown to wiggo) but well done on the win, though he should have kept going hard to the line and then celebrating.

All this talk of Froome being arrogant must be by people who don't watch him being interviewed, as I have never seen himcome across that way, there again may be irrational hatred

I can't help but interpret Froomes 'arrogance' as bit of naive enthusiasm somehow.
Maybe that makes me naive.

I'm don't really like Froome, but the hate he gets here from some is ridiculous. Everything he does is wrong.
He is definately isn't boring. Sky is boring, but Froome is so eager he tends to attack too often. His style is awful, definately, but boring.. definately not.
He is boring when he dominated last year, but I also found Nibali boring in the Giro 2013 while Nibali isn't a boring rider at all.
