Surprising. I read an interview with him this morning where he said how happy he was to be riding in California.

If he's not used to the 37c+ heat and single-digit humidity then it's perfectly reasonable. And they've had days of it by now.

The UK Eurosport feed was wondering why Sky is letting the gap stay at 3 min.

It's a long, long, steady climb with no shade and still 38c+ at super-low humidity that will **really** hurt for the breakaway vaguely near the top, and then the very end kicks up hard.

I don't think there's enough gradient for Brad to ride guys off his wheel and then close the deal on the last ramp. It's just not steep enough.

Look for fireworks in the last couple of KM.

"Everyone is wondering whether race leader Bradley Wiggins (Sky) will be able to defend his yellow jersey against the climbers during this stage, with its mountain top finish"

So winner of the TDF is having to defend his jersey from the "climber" Rohan Dennis?

Yes, its an unbelievably weak field. Actually, it is believable. Proper bike racing, as everyone knows is really only done Europe ;).

Gap still at three minutes with 12k to go.

It was 2:40 a couple km's ago but the break managed to gain back some time.

Chavez was the best of them on Mount Diablo. Hopefully he will get a win today.

Wiggo left with Dombro and Edmondson only.

EDIT: Now only Dombro left.

And what did Sky do to Dombrowski? He's barely hanging on and on Mount Diablo he was gone before we knew it.

The guy ended top 5 in Cali before he went to Sky didn't he?

Yep, with a stellar climb on Baldy in 2012 if memory serves...I think I read he got sick?

I know Dombro's hardly raced this year as he's had a knee injury.

Or knee issues, rather. Something about his legs being different lengths.

That explains it.

Craddock not looking too bright in the back of the (rather large) pack?

Dombro recently found ot that he has one leg shorter. They've "fixed" this issue and now it should be only better. Let's not forget it's his first real race this season. He started in Coppi Bartali only because Sky were short of riders.

Danielson needs to hit the afterburners if there's anything left.

Wiggo's group will be coming fast now.
