However, he may be under team orders to do what Valverde wants. This may be to attack at the base of the final climb as you said. But if Nairo goes there, it is on Valverde's command rather than Nairo's desire to get back in the GC race.

Looking at the crash though, I can't see him getting away with it relatively unscathed. I think there will be considerable pain today. He may not be able to launch any kind of attack whatever the reason for doing so.

Aru didn't have it on the previous MTF, so I don't know about that.

Purito - top favorite for second place now along with Valverde, and maybe a stage win, but I don't think he's particularly excited about that. I think he went too far in the red in the Tour also. Let's see if he can drop Contador on any of the remaining MTFs. I'm skeptical.

The GC battle is going to be interesting. Everyone has an incentive to not work, hence someone other than tinkof-saxo will do the work for most of the (failed) chase.

Quintana's best chance to regain lost time is actually today: the day that others wont expect him to do an early attack. (depends on injury though.)

AC will just ride third wheel to whoever is pulling the select group.
Dont expect winner to get any support today, though he will definitely try launching before that steep part.

If the break was caught: Contador FTW.(or loses to purito on a sprint)

Agree. Stages 16 and 20 should be the ones for this. He needs to get in the right early break with representatives from plenty of other teams to force Tinkoff to chase by alone. Garmin could be good allies.

This Vuelta is far from over.

I can see Purito and AC in front of a group of other GC boys who get scattered down the climb. Froome,Valverde and Nairobi to lose 45 seconds plus today. I think Purito will take the finish ahead of Alberto but probably behind a breakaway. I'm hoping Aru does good today.
