I remember them too, but they're nothing like these of today. Nobody doubts Alberto's shape now.

Contador has looked more nervous than usual every day since I was here. Maybe something is boiling with Oleg. But Berto has no problem dealing with pressure normally, so I still see him as the big favorite. He looked great in the first part, so-so in the second, but who cares? This is just a short TTT.

Aru and Rosa both looked excellent. I'm expecting big things from them come the third week. Maybe Rosa can try something even in the first week.

Oh and Cunego is as skinny as I've seen him in a very long time.

The ITT is very long, and Contador wasn't please when he reconned it. As for his ability in the very long TT's, he hasn't done a lot of them, and even fewer on top form. If he's in top shape, he'll be up there, simple as that, last tt he rode on top form the world champ literally had to ride his balls of to win

From what I've seen from Porte, I think he's not super suited to that kind of distance either, his best efforts have all been in the 20-30 minute range.

Uran is the biggest danger in the TT, but if Contador can't drop Uran in the mountains, he's not gonna pull off a double (not one with the Giro in it anyway)

My feeling is that Oleg is needlessly causing stress within the team and if I were among the car staff, wouldn't be too happy about having the guy on board.

Unfortunately the coverage due to the narrow course and, being sporadic as it was switching from team to team, one really didn't get a chance to see any particular rider long enough to evaluate his performance. Except the ones that dropped off the pace of course. There was that strange moment when Contador and Basso were loosing contact, but this seems to have been Basso's fault, although it wasn't a pretty sight either way.

If Aru is as good as it seems he was, I can't help but have some doubt about the true nature of his illness. He hasn't raced in a while, had what was evidently a brutal intestinal virus, but seems to be on track as if everything had gone according to plan. Boh...

There are riders who won a GT one month after allegedly breaking their leg. It wouldn't be the first time injuries or sicknesses are exaggerated.

Ryo actually has a point. In the 2nd part you see Alberto taking 2 short pulls and even skipping one. In the 1st he does a long one (around the intermediate check) and more we don't see. So I'm actually pretty curious why some people say Ryo is talking nonsense and claiming Alberto was doing strong pulls.

Like I said, everyone sees what he/she wants to see.
But no-one can make any real conclusions, only the riders themselves. And even then - it's the first of 21 days of racing. So much can change. Personally, I wouldn't really make the conclusion Contador was strong. But weak - that could also be reading too much into it.

Yeah, I think if you can deal with Wonderboy and Johan, you are probably not completely unsettled by Oleg. Of course, he was much stronger 09 than he is these days which probably made him extra confident.

More likely he's just been building up to a massive effort that he's about to start. He's laid his cards on the table, and must have a lot of pent up adrenalin. Reckon he'll settle down once the race has started. Isn't easy to be red hot favourite with a huge task before you.

Surpisingly IAM were the fastest team on the second half. Wonder if they had a problem on the first half or just went off too slow
