Either Kreuziger has lost his time trial magic or he saved himself today for the work ahead of him. Either way I'm expecting Rogers / Kreuziger to neutralize any Astana attacks.GoGarmin said:

As it is now, when Aru goes, Contador follows, and when Landa or Cataldo go, one of the other top 10 riders will have to react, as they're not the one who can drop them when they want and they are not the one with 5 minutes to burn. Only chance is to isolate Contador on the first two climbs of the Mortirolo stage and have your secondary GC riders ride away in another group. But that won't happen, Kreuziger would still be there to do a bunch of work.

try tune in to RAI since they are the one who broadcast the race. I bet watching from moto 2 alone is already giving the peloton coverage uninterruptedly. (moto 2 stayed with peloton)

try tune in to RAI since they are the one who broadcast the race. I bet watching from moto 2 alone is already giving the peloton coverage uninterruptedly. (moto 2 stayed with peloton)

People has been talking about the isolation of Contador. LOL. That tactic has never ever work in a GT. There are several reasons why not but don't want to get into details. Anyway, Contador has this in the bag.

Could work if you've multiple threats (in your team) and a parcours with mountains and flat parts all over the place. Then you need those threats strong enough to attack and the leader's team needs to be rather weak where he's isolated rather quick.
Then you need the gc leader to be not godlike otherwise it'll almost never work (unless he gets quickly nervours and forgets to eat). Furthermore you need to hope other teams won't benefit a chase.
That's imo the main conditions for it to work. Very hard indeed to fulfill

Saeco ganging up on Popovych when Cunego won the Giro is about the nearest thing to this I can think of. Super U couldn't beat LeMond when the only other guy that finished on his team was a sprinter, Planckaert (but then they didn't really have multiple threats). Astana are very strong, but Bertie is a different proposition to Popovych.
Anyway, as for today's (already) stage, I expect many of the usual suspects mentioned above will be in the break. I think Kruijswijk and Hesjedal will keep their powder dry after riding a hard TT, but, if they feel good, may launch a pre-emptive strike before the big hitters really accelerate. However, I think Astana will ride the penultimate climb hard. If Bertie is isolated at the bottom of the climb, then that's Astana's time to attack, since it is a steady climb where drafting does at least give a little benefit.
Anyway, that's enough procycling manager. Bertie will assert himself tomorrow on the steep bit a couple of kms out

Benat or Betancur will win it. A bolter like Pirazzi or another climber won't win it. Whoever is leading after Tuesday will hold onto it and it should be Benat. The only way Betancur gets maximum votes is on the final climbs when he rides away from Intxausti. But that won't be enough.

Liberty Seguros, 2005 Vuelta. That's the best example I can think of, with 4 Liberty guys in the attack moves, and them literally stopping by the side of the road waiting for Heras to ride across while Menchov's depleted Rabo team collapsed all around him.Tank Engine said:

Sanchez if team leader in the tour would do as well as van garderen in a mountainous route I reckon, I just can't fathom logic behind this outside of commerciality, Caruso is doing a good job to be fair but TJ may be a level above, not just true of BMC mind, talansky is another cyclist but not elite, should he have not been entered to giro and vuelta rather than tour where he will be under pressure to come top 10, as this years tour is very elite cyclist heavy I thought for these guys and some others (I would love to see PInot in Giro but can understand as being French and team French he he has to go tour), Keldermann, 1 of Bardet or Peraud, etc.

Looks like a good day for Contador to take it relatively easy and follow wheels. I look for him to go for the stage win on a steeper finish.

Giro is over as long as Alberto does not crash hard or something like that. But that is why he still needs to concentrate on Giro and not TdF yet. Doesn't have to ride too hard but can't lose his focus on the moment.
