ASTANA JUST THINK in ARU, WHO IS GOINT TO LOSE THE PODIUM AND ASTANA DESERVES THAT.

They dont want to win the Giro, Contador yes, so, Contador is going to win, and it must be like that.

Landa has to obey, as Froome did in his day.

5 minutes is still possible, but not this way, Aru must be sacrificed, Martinelli is a ... i think I am, not allowed to say by the rules.. must be like that, I am really upset.

Wow, what a group of Contador fanboys here. Although what he did today might have been justified it's far from classy.

No one said it's classy.

But, it is much better that he dished it out on the road instead of engaging in a war of words.

Bingo. Definitely would have been classier not to take advantage, but it still makes me smile.

My only worry is that real sportsmanship, not the drivel which Armstrong spawned, takes a hit. Hopefully the takeaway by teams is to revert back to the norm of not attacking the leader finds its historical place.

Oh, and I'm sure after Stage 16 when Katowa and Astana did what they did, you were totally fine with that??? If you mess with the bull, you are gonna get the horns.
Ironically, the bullfighter was the nickname RCS gave him last time he rode the Giro.

There was a post-race interview with Landa on Danish TV. His attitude was like: "It was payback. I guess we deserved it. But it's not over yet".

I definetely sensed a bad conscience but he also sort of said that it was all even now, and anything could happen during the next stages.

I hope Contador is getting a nice training ride, because if he's going all out just for revenge, he's an idiot. He doesn't need the GC time, and he's very unlikely to catch the break for a stage win.

Really, really, really don't understand everyone here praising him. Strategically, this appears to be a very dumb thing to do.

I'll eat some of my words if he wins the stage, but if he doesn't, this will come back to haunt him at the TDF. And right after he said every move had consequences.

It's not about win. It's about sending a message.

Well I've always been on the side of it's a race, so race.

But the unwritten rule is you wait for the Leaders Jersey if he has a mechanical. I didn't see anyone in Pink on Astana today. So the unwritten rule was NOT in play unlike on the Aprica stage.

But I never spoke against Astana then and I think Contador has shown nothing but class. Never badmouthed them, just let his legs talk today.

He is right, but what about the "is not over yet" part that he said?

Hello Landa, you did follow wheels on the Movistar train most of the way. You could have cut the difference like Contador did and you didn't. So if you were weak it is over my friend. In fact long time ago it was over.

@Taxus

Ryder is stronger climber than Contador, and 5' is still not enough time for Contador if Landa attacks?! Wow, your analysis gets worse and worse the more you post!!!

In other without Martinelli and Vino.

If Landa today has put 40 seconds on Contador in just 3 km, he can put a lot a day as tomorrow, he could, becouse for his team is more important Aru s `podium.

I disagree with this analysis. I don't think it was the team holding back Landa today, he simply couldn't pull back more time today. It's also no that easy to just look at the time he gained back on the climb and convert that to a mano a mano duel (if it indeed was 40sec in 3km) or to compare it to Alberto's chase on the Mortirolo stage.

I think it's interesting that Landa admitted that Astana's move on stage 16 was somewhat 'controversial'. I'm not sure he actually believes they can defeat Contador but Landa said in another interview before today's stage that their intent was to make this Giro so hard for Alberto that he [Contador] couldn't possibly be any threat to Nibali in the Tour!

This day remember me when Contador drop Andy in the alps, and with Samu descent and was really strong... next day was a hard stage with Agnello, Izoard and Galibier, Andy put on him almost 4 minutes, with all the valley with strong headwind...so it could have been 6 minutes.

But Andy was unleashed, and his brother was there for him...Now, his team, is not with him and Landa is not unleashed...
You cant win if your team dont want your victory, as simple as that, and Landa now, with the problems of Porte and Uran and with Hesjedal and Crispis far away in the general, is the only enemy of Alberto.

You've got years mixed up. Contador was weak in 2011 because of the Giro.

Maybe Landa has been a bit stronger than Contador in pure climbing but I would argue that he has benefited much more from his team than he has lost by them holding him back (which was correct in the beginning because Aru was the team leader).

Wich story? That Landa is clearly stronger?

That Contador was full gas at the begining of the Mortirolo, and Landa was relaxing giving pace to Aru? but both of them were first of his group.

That Çontador did 2 small push to Crispis??

Well that is ok, not a big story, but ok, but when a man that is not well in the flat put to you 38 seconds in 3 kms of false flat, even when you had the help of Crispis.. is that the other man is clearly stronger than you..

And that is in a not long stage as tomorrow...

Today Landa showed that he can put 40 seconds on contador in just 3 kms, and the forst 3 km of Contador are very strong, he use to fade way later slowly...

But today, even when the help of hesjedal and Villela, contador got more tired than Landa.. i admit that, and tomorrow is a factor.

But for Astana only matters Aru s podium...

I am going to read Landa to try to find out what he think...

it is true, in other team he now maybe wont be podium...or maybe he crashed and he was anonimous again... but now they have the oportinity to win and thay mmust playu to win.. I dont mind if Landa finish second, 4th or 20 th, I just want to play to win...and no Vino saying: you are not allowed to race any other GT if you dont sign again with us...
