There was only about 10 seconds or so between last rider crossing the rails and train coming through. Crazy dangerous.
That was a TGV, and it slowed down massively. Assume driver was advised he was crossing the race route and to watch out. God only knows what would happen if he went through at full pace.

Disqualifications coming..
i suppose they let it slide....

They shouldn't let it slide. If they do then riders will continue to do it in future races - until one of them gets hit by a train.

It's one of the most important rules there is in terms of rider safety.
Now this is correct, but where do you make the cut? They came down in the middle of the peloton. So who will be the first disqualified? The mo ron from BMC should obviously be, but the others ?

I guess he is right this time, but it is also kind of hilarious that Cancellara (again) is the one whining on Twitter. :D

Well half the bunch made it through before the barriers came down, it's the guys crossing once the barriers came down that should be punished.
I thought the barriers were already coming down when the first riders passed. May be wrong though, will have to see it again. In that case whoever was on the front should have taken responsibility and stopped, but then I admit it's easy to say that from behind a keyboard.

They wont though as they would then have to DQ half the peleton - unlike the Hoste DQ close to Roubaix some years back.

The organiser also needs to do something to make sure the peloton stops. Clearly that small barrier isn't a big enough hint that a *** train is coming. That moto who finally managed to stop the riders may have saved lives.

I hate Cancellara's new role as mother-hen and policeman of the peloton.

It's not new. When Creed told the story of the peloton calling him 'Luigi', he mentioned how most of the peloton think he's a loud and obnoxious self-styled 'patron'.

Yeah, it's a tough call to make. I guess at least the last couple that continued when everyone else was stopped; the rest you probably have to give the benefit of doubt to that they couldn't brake in time.

Honestly they already have the technology to check exactly who crossed the barriers while they were down.

Theere was a red light before the first guy passed it, so everyone of the peloton who passed it should be DQ

The first person in the peloton already rode through red light of the train. So basically the whole peloton who rode through should have been dnf-ed

I think technically everyone that crossed after the signal started blinking broke the rules.. That means everyone in the peloton that crossed I suppose.. Just too many riders for it to be the likely outcome

What would be issue? Ones who went through as barrier was moving? Or ones when barrier was fully down? Way to hard to police imo. They all should've been stopped and forced to wait 60 seconds or so.

But they'll never do that. 2006 was completely different, race was already done.
