Theere was a red light before the first guy passed it, so everyone of the peloton who passed it should be DQ

The first person in the peloton already rode through red light of the train. So basically the whole peloton who rode through should have been dnf-ed

Will be interesting what the jury decides after the race. Could be a big day for the break. :p

Disqualifications coming..
i suppose they let it slide....

They shouldn't let it slide. If they do then riders will continue to do it in future races - until one of them gets hit by a train.

It's one of the most important rules there is in terms of rider safety.
Now this is correct, but where do you make the cut? They came down in the middle of the peloton. So who will be the first disqualified? The mo ron from BMC should obviously be, but the others ?
Honestly they already have the technology to check exactly who crossed the barriers while they were down.

Granted, the heli was on, so it is easy to count them out, but as Libertine said, you are at 50 kmh in a peloton, so go and brake if you see something, as said, tough call, so i think they will let it slide (besides some obvious mo rons crossing very late)

I think the rules only specify the barriers must be coming down for it to be forbidden, but I'm not sure.

But they'll never do that. 2006 was completely different, race was already done.

Probably not.. But there were quite a few idiots... Why don`t they just stop the train ffs..

Technically I guess that's correct. But I think there is a big difference between going through a red light which a rider may or may not have seen, and may not have had the time to brake in any case, and between pushing through riders that have already stopped and going round barriers that are completely down.

The lights are one thing (seeing them with all the adrenaline of a race), but sprinting into closing or even already closed barriers is just reckless and should be punished!

I agree, but where to draw the line would be arbitrary.. But that BMC rider needs to be disqualified.

Just tuned in. I know many people dislike him, but I'm actually disappointed Kirby isn't announcing. He's entertaining. Just went through the last few pages - so, big story so far is a train and Thomas going down? No other favorites behind?

Wiggins and Terpstra seemed to suffer during Arenberg and Devolder is already out.

There was only about 10 seconds or so between last rider crossing the rails and train coming through. Crazy dangerous.
That was a TGV, and it slowed down massively. Assume driver was advised he was crossing the race route and to watch out. God only knows what would happen if he went through at full pace.

If there are level crossings, the maximum speed is 160 km/h. However still crazy dangerous.

There is nothing arbitrary about the rule. You ignore the red light, you are out. There are no ifs and buts in the rule. Only the first 5-10 riders can give the excuse they couldn't break maybe, everyone after that should be disqualified. Doing nothing isn't an option, drawing a line is arbitrary. So your only option is take everyone out.

The commentators at Eurosport said something that Terpstra and Wiggins were well behind the front of the peloton at that time. Don't know if it was really suffering or just saving energy with over 90 kilometers to go ;)
