Rugby so far advanced of other sports with video replay.

The ref sees he made a mistake on the big screen, so he calls for video refs.

What is so hard about that. Why do almost all other sports insist that whatever the ref decides at first must be the right decision.

Rugby incorporates lots of natural stops where video playback wouldn't and doesn't interfere with action.
Only an imbecile would suggest similar playback technology at all other sports. In particular football would suffer tremendously if such tecchie stuff were to be introduced.

Yes, because there's nothing in, say, football, that constantly causes controversy AND causes a natural stop in play...

Football, unlike Rugby uses very soft refs with zero authority these days.Think about it....

In the case of giving cards, penalties and goals, (in which case in the vast majority of cases the game is halted anyway) they are soft because they are worried about giving what might seem a harsh decision on the limited evidence they sometimes have.

Rugby refs don't have that problem (at least to the same degree). The use of technology is not going to undermine the authority of the referee(s).

Although I remember an absolutely dreadful decision from a couple of years back in the six nations that helped Wales beat Ireland, which should have been reviewed (a swift change of ball at a lineout leading to a try).

Anyway, back to the subject. Solid win in the end for England. Hope we do the same (or better) on Sunday despite the injury problems in the backs. We're going to particularly miss 1/2penny.

Game stops because of a goal, gets reviewed, right decision made. Fail to see any problem.

Anyway, back to what the thread is about. Pretty ugly game, not great but a win is a win and Sam Burgess showed some flashes of what he can do for England: Draw in three defenders, still break the line and then offload out of nowhere. Glad they took him.

Imbecile? Damn man, I thought we were friends.

btw in my post I was specifically refering to an incident where the ref had the time to look up at the screen -saw he made a mistake, and then had the chance to bring in the video refs, who he's got live communication to.

So if in football there isn't the natural stop for the ref to be able to look up at the screen, then the ref won't look up at the screen, no problem.

But for things like offside goals for example, the game stops anyway. The commentators can see 3 seconds later if the assistant made a mistake. The fans can see it on the big screen and so can the ref.

I fail to see how its better to just roll with whatever decision the assistant guessed and save 5 seconds, rather than use the technology available to correct the wrong.

We are "friends", I just don't like technology in many sports. Makes them dull.

Eshnar how was the game? I found it immensely frustrating from my living room. I've never seen Italy lose by so much while being at the level of the opposition. Joubert was pretty bad, but nowhere near as bad as Italy's discipline.

I've never seen such a horrible scrum. As for the rest, we weren't so terrible... or maybe France wasn't that good.
Every forward pass of theirs became a penalty for them  They could have basically scored infinite points by passing forward on purpose.

Incredible Japan ! Pity that the schedule is quite tough for them.
Wonder whether they'll be able to recover for the Scotland game on Wednesday.

Fell asleep during France vs Italy but glad that France won.

That was SO good to see! Japan has had excellent ball running backs for years, but little else. It's exciting to see them gel as a team and get a major scalp.

I thought that the Pumas would come out hard against the All Blacks. If a few things go right for them they will go deep into the competition. They are a quality side. I didn't expect Sonny Bill to be the one to get NZ out of trouble though.

Japan had amazing catch and pass, especially in the 2nd half - as you say, their backs were on fire and the desire to win at all costs was superior to the springboks!

The Puma's are a tough side. Their forwards are world class and it is foolish to try and take them on up front in the set piece.
Fitness, a great bench and speed across the park won it for the all blacks

sbw loves the big stage
when he is on, look out - definitely an x-factor player and can be the one to crack a game wide open

nonu, sbw c.smith, a.smith, b.smith and j.savea have enough talent in that back line to stomp all over the opposition

however
in rugby it all starts up front with the tight 5 doing their job and establishing dominance
without that
you're p!ssing into the wind

Wales made too many errors against the weakest side in the group and another full back injury :( .
Still it was a bonus-point win. The first of two huge games comes next Saturday. The scrum should be OK, but the backline is ravaged by injuries.

It's unfortunate as the Welsh back line is fantastic when 100% fit, and I think Rhys Webb will be missed more than Halfpenny, but now Williams too has injured himself then that full back position is really lost.

The Welsh scrum is pretty poor normally compared to England, but Warburton and Tipuric are in good form so the breakdown battle will go to Wales.

Don't know about that, I remember one game recently when the Welsh front row destroyed England in the scrum.
