No team can stop Pooper. Not even all blacks. 10 turnovers a game wins you matches.

maybe we'll be lucky enough to see that matchup in the final?

lets hope the wallabies haven't played their best game too early in the comp

england loose forwards were rubbish..robshaw is no number 7, a half decent 6 at best.
against that forward pack the hooper / pocock combo was always going to shine.....been saying it in the media all week

well played Aussie

I've never supported England just because I'm English, but I usually cheer for the hosts just because its a better atmosphere when they do well.

A real shame England got put in the group of death. Would have at least liked to see a qf game at twickers and soak up the atmosphere, even if the southern giants ultimately truimph

comments i read over the weekend from leading rugby journo's here suggest the IRB will make rule changes to avoid this sort of thing happening in future world cups

ie - having a "pool of death" not the hosts being bundled out in pool play for playing average rugby

Italy produce valiant effort against Ireland but lose 16-9 and are out of the WCs. Ireland wholly unconvincing and with Ghiraldini offering stability and experience at the line out then Italy would have won. Ireland's try came from a botched Italian line out, Italy lost a line out on the 5 metre line, where otherwise they would have scored (Ireland struggled in the maul), altho Italy got a penalty not too soon after, and one on the 22 with 5 minutes to go and a man up. It could well have been 20-9 to Italy. OTOH Italy didn't deserve it as they never managed to break through the Irish defence. Tbh Ireland only managed once and had 3 tactics.

1. Murray -----> Whallop!!
2. Murray -----> Sexton -----> Whallop!!
3. Murray -----> Henderson -----> make 10 metres out of pure strength.

France might beat Ireland but it depends which France turn up and if it is only Italy's tactic against Ireland (physical!!!!) that prohibits them playing. France are much more likely to beat NZ but also more likely to lose to Argentina, so it's 50/50 to who I want in which semi. I think France to just sneak it, then have a very tight game against Arg where they try to find every way to lose but don't, and NZ to crush Ireland.

OMFG. WHAT A MATCH. Australia

For anyone who did not watch it: Score is 12-6 with 25 mins to go, pretty even game thus far with Aus better at scrum and ruck but equal elsewhere, when Will Genia, previously one of the worlds' best 9s and Oz's best player, gets sin-binned after tackling a welsh player who had just taken a tap penalty when Genia was literally 1/2 a metre in front of him. Cynical foul while offside, yellow. 2 or 3 minutes of pressure from wales and 2 pens already given away on the 5 meter line, the lock tries to steal a ball at the lineout when Jones has it in his hand, sin bin for repeated fouls in the red zone.

Wales take the scrum. 15 vs 13, and 8 vs 7 in the scrum, surely wales will demolish the Aus scrum and get metres/penalty before a try. No! Gareth Davies picks up the ball, has now a two-on-one down the blind side and gets hammered. Try butchered. Australia with their backs against the wall, tackling, then Faletau gets the ball and scores? No, says the tmo (rightly), ball had no downward pressure. 5 metre scrum. Aus knock wlaes back 10 metres with insane line speed and defence. Then again. And again. wales finally realise they are two men up sand start going through the hands, North has an overlap and cuts back inside and almost makes it, but is held up after Foley avoided the tackle at all costs, clearly scared at the prospect of stopping 105kg of pure Welsh muscle.

Aus turn iit over, then it is turned back over straight away and they are defending again. Tackle after tackle the Aussies drive the welsh back, who in turn failed to notice they had a 2 MAN ADVANTAGE and could verye asily work the overlap. australia get a penalty. Kick it away. Phipps comes on and it is now 15vs14. All of sudden, after 70 tackles in 10minutes, Austeralia are attacking. They work the overalp and have a penalty. 15-6. Now it's 15vs 15. 5 muntes to go and the imbecile Cuthbert decides to get the Farrell/Burgess/Baritt/Lancaster award for idiocy to punch the ball forward and get sin binned for blatantly and purposely stopping a try. GAme over. wales have refound the 101 ways how (not) to beat your opponent, which they had lost since the semi in 2011 against France.

Aussie are looking like a very slick unit! Although, I thought they would put more points on the Welsh??

Their scrum has become a great attacking weapon and the turn around in the last 12 months is probably best conversed in the clinic.

France v Ireland should be a good watch....All Blacks to play the winner of that game in the Quarters.....hoping it's France, just for old times sake.

The Aussie defence was inspired. Respect. The Welsh attack was unfortunately not inspired.

Ireland beating the French 24-9 but at a considerable cost with numerous injuries.
Impressive scrum from the Irish!!

Argentina to play the Irish and The All Blacks to play France - can't wait!!!

A rematch of the 07 Quarterfinal when the French bounced the AB's out of the cup....back in Cardiff as well!

Quarter Finals:
South Africa v Wales
New Zealand v France
Ireland v Argentina
Australia v Scotland

Most excited about the SA v Wales and Ireland v Argentina games, as much as I love French rugby I just don't see them being competitive against the All blacks despite the AB's not looking all conquering themselves. Scotland are obviously without a hope against the Aussies but with the injuries to both the Welsh and Irish squads I could see those two games going either way.

I'll be supporting Scotland, Argentina and France in their games but the idea of New Zealand v Wales and Australia v Ireland in semis does sound fantastic.

Scotland have hope - they have beaten Aussie 2 out of the last 3 times they have met.
Aussie were super courageous against the Welsh and the only question mark next to them is perhaps they have played their best rugby too early in the tournament?

Ireland are well battered and the Puma's are improving with each game and this will be a tight match - I'm picking Argentina.

The Welsh are in tatters and will have to play yet another massive game with 2nd and 3rd string players to beat a pretty slick Springboks side - Boks for me in this one.

Extreme bias here, but picking the All Blacks to beat the French quite convincingly and get some tongues wagging about their form.....finally......hopefully.

So, potentially it could be an all southern hemisphere semi finals match up - another hammer blow to the home nations following hosts England's humiliating pool-stage exit from the tournament.

Aus to beat Scotland, Boks surely to beat Wales? Although they have surprised us before, the Welsh attack is uninventive and pretty bad, 1try only vs Eng and Oz. Ireland vs Arg will be very fun, but idk why but I don't really rate Ireland, and Sean o'Briens punch in Pape was horrific and more at a mixed martial arts meet. He will be banned. Very close.

France vs NZ. Tbh I'm not gonna say much more than this: I hope Barnesy is the ref. :D

Wayne Barnes is actually a great referee, he only made one real mistake in 2007 with the forward pass to Michalak, one of the best in the world and has zero tolerance for McCaw's game at 7 - cannily staying just within the laws of the game and often straying over. No one usually pings him for it but Barnes does, and often. With Spedding kicking from 60m out then that might hurt NZ should he be the ref.

I'll agree with you that Barnes is a world class ref, and no worries about him having the whistle in this game.

McCaw definitely pushes the laws to the limit....as every great No 7 should be
Hooper and Pocock have been watching him for years and now play a similar style - Imitation is the highest form of flattery
If McCaw is getting offside with Barnes, Hansen will bench him and put Cane is his place.....who's actually had a far superior overall game than McCaw for the past 12 months.....it's NZ, the next No 7 of the production line is just as good as the last :D
