I find it strange that Gilbert is not riding the Tour this year. Did I miss an announcement on why not?

Yes - his leg is injured. He fractured his tibia, supposedly in La Flèche Wallonne.

That's a Mega-train for Greipel.

Good to see Henderson there. He did really good in ZLM. Great prologue and some awesome lead-out in which he almost beat anyone but Greipel.

They should win at least 3 stages with that team

Eyeballs Out, yes.

Kittel has been miserable this year and will not arrive in top form when the Tour starts. He can't survive soft small hills, cobblestones and wind. He is the peloton's biggest wheelsucker and there are not many stages that are just plain flat.

Cavendish is hardier. So it's going to be close between the two in a flat sprint. Cav has the power, Griepel has the mega-train. But Griepel is a slightly better climber and a way better cobblestone rider, so there are more chances for him.

I think we will see Griepel sprinting against the likes of Kristoff and Degenkolb more often than against Cavendish.

Thanks very much. This route suited him, so it was a shame. I remember thinking in the spring that there was a chance he could be in yellow at some stage of the first week.

Danielson does not ride. he's back in US and will start Utah and Colorado. via his twitter
Not a surprise for me, because I think Cannondale wll have between 4 and 6 rouleurs and the climbing spots will go to Talansky, Hesjedal, Martin and possibly Cardoso and King. Bit of a shame, because Tom started his season well, but that knee injury during the Giro complicated his GT prospects for this year. If he rides Colorado, then no Vuelta for him as well. I wonder if he gets a contract extension for 2016, because he has expressed the will to continue with Cannondale for another year.

That's pretty much standard train for Greipel. He had exactly the same train 1, 2 and 3 years ago. Only Debusschere replaced Roelandts.

Very good team for the first 9 days, but in the high mountains, Van Garderen may find himself alone. He needs to count either on Sanchez not deteriotating since last Vuelta or on Caruso not being overly tired after Giro.

Lol..leg injured...that's just press excuse..

BMC managment and Gilbert had a big fallout.

“It’s hard to motivate yourself when you have no insight into your program,” Gilbert told Het Nieuwsblad. “Do they want me there? I have heard nothing.

“I’m not a neo pro anymore,” said Gilbert, who will turn 33 on the Tour’s second stage on July 5. “I have nothing more to prove, especially after my two stage victories in the Giro. They refuse to show me that confidence. I am fresh after the Giro, I climbed better than ever without having to overdo it.

Cavendish hasn't impressed at all this season. He was nowhere again in Switzerland.
I'm curious if he'll be competitive here. He seems to lack that edge/eagerness he used to have. He shouldn't have gotten those kids yet - they drop your testosterone level.

Yeah I agree. I wouldn't even be surprised if Greipel or Kristoff are able to beat Cav in a flat sprint.

Why is Roelandts not in Lotto's team?

I like the trio of Wellens, Gallopin and De Gendt as stage hunters. They should get at least one stage between them.

Both him and Phinney recovering from bad injuries. Stetina would have been included instead of a likely tired Caruso and Phinney would have made their TTT even stronger.

Guessing you two paid no attention to the only race they both rode where Cav had Andre covered.

Cavendish has never ridden Suisse for stage wins. 16 wins (inc. jerseys) this season suggests he's ticking over OK.

None of those are WT wins though.

Meaningless distinction. Most WT sprints are a piss poor level. There's only the Tour and occasionally the Giro with a serious level of competition consistently. No one wins against top fields before July in sprinting.

Last year he didn't finish a Tour stage so there's no reference. Year before that he was ill with a crap lead-out and won 2 stages. Year before that he won every stage his insulting 'Team'Sky support let him near. Year before that (and the 3 before that) he swept the board near as damn it.

Yes they could, but he's already beaten both this season, despite not being WT. I think Its a big Tour for Cav, he needs a couple of stages and I think he will get them.

Stetina isn't a huge miss, Phinney is mostly useful for a TTT. Velits and De Marchi would have been shoe-ins if fit.
