Never ever liked time bonuses but to have them on some stages but not others has always been stupid.

What is the gradient of the final climb?

The actual climb, from Mt. Baldy to Manker Canyon parking lot, few meters bellow the Ski Lifts, is 7km at 9%. Reminds me a bit of last year's stage finishing in Mountain High, where the steepest part was actually the finale up to Table Mountain.

Thanks Bigmac. 7km @ 9%? I'm guessing the Sagan fans were trolling when they said he could fight for GC here...

I hold my hands up and admit I was wrong, incredible ride from Sagan! Just narrowly failed.

Because remember: predictability is a good and desirable thing in this sport.

If I ever come to think that, please put one right between my eyes.

Welcome back.
Why, thank you.

Honestly though, I'm mostly stoked by Sagan's result here. For me, the thing I most admire in a rider is all-roundness, the ability and willingness to compete every single day in every single terrain. They're few and far between today, as the sport naturally pushes towards specialization. And Sagan did always come off as one of the few, even if to my disappointment he has (wisely, one could argue) chosen to forgo the mountains for the last few years, when he has in the past shown he is quite capable in them as well.

And I'm so glad to see otherwise today. Even if he came short. Valiant effort.

FWIW disagree, but from the other direction: I'd be happy not to have time bonuses on flat stages because who cares if Kittel is 2 secs ahead of Greipel and 4 ahead of Kristoff, etc

Damn Sagan!! I wonder how much money you could win if you predicted that. And what a mountain domestique he will be for AC in the tour!

Not Sagan's biggest fan at all, but he's won me over with that ride. Chapeau!

By the way, are Eurosport wrong or are there genuinely no time bonuses today? That would be absurd considering there are time bonuses on the flat stages...

He just need to win one intermediate sprint and finish faster than Philippe tommorow and he will take the overall.

This is freaking insane. WHAT A RIDE from Alaphilippe and Sagan.

Sagan must have pushed som great watt numbers considering he is something like 10 kg heavier than most of the other riders.

No time bonuses on MTF's in many races.
