Tinkoff just aren't good enough in the mountains, it was the same in TdF.

It's a shame, cause Contador and Majka could perform better, if their helpers could match those on Sky, Movistar and not least Astana.

No one expected Majka to have any help in the mountains when the team was announced - was obvious

Hansen should be there - so should Paulinho - that is what they are there for!

If the team was not riding for overall GC, there would be no point to riding the way they are.

Did you actually expect Jesper Hansen and Paulinho to be able to be there? Granted, Jesper Hansen has shown promise in the mountains, but has never ridden any stage races that lasted more than 7 days, and he complained about not feeling too well the other day. Paulinho has never been a climber per se.

They have Poljanski up the road. Still, the lineup is pathetic. TInkoff played out this season terribly. Send the strongest supporting cast to the Tour where there is a weak leader, have not much in the Giro (fine with weak lineup but still had potential to end badly) and absolutely no support in the Vuelta

Torres still there with Purito, Bala and Quintana.

Such a great rider!

His best hope is a stage win now. He won't be winning the KOM jersey. He'll pick one up in the third week. Maybe later this week.

Froome should bandon. This is pointless. Stop showing him, I don't like him, but clearly he's injured.

It happens in almost every GT, but it never fails to disappoint me. Did Froome have a bad crash that I missed? I can't see any damage on the stream and just turned it on a few minutes ago. Such a bummer. I'm a Contador fan but find myself cheering for Froome.

Well, at least 2 of the top 10 (Roche and Froome) are decisively dropped more than 40km from the finish. Still no mano-a-mano madness, but from a purely attrition standpoint this is already an exciting stage.

Where's the rest of the top guys? I saw Sammy Sanchez dropped, but I haven't caught a glimpse of Chaves (oh wait just saw him) or Pozzovivo.
Froome and Roche both dropped because of crashes though

Well, I think that's a bit facile. Valverde had a hard fall the other day, probably harder than anyone in the top 10, and he hasn't dropped. Chaves crashed in the early stages. Other guys too, probably, although I can't remember just now. Roche and Froome dropped because the legs aren't there, which could be from a variety of factors, including crashes, or weather, or sickness, or lack of food, or just poor form. Explaining it away by saying 'well he dropped because of a crash' is a bit of reverse engineering. Sure Froome had to chase back but so did Contador on the queen stage in the Giro and he made it back.

How big will the time limit be? A lot of rider might have huge problems to finish in time.

Poljanski is decent, indeed. I was merely addressing the riders Broccoli mentioned, though. The Vuelta-squad on paper is in no way suited to being powerful in the mountains, which is quite paradoxical considering the amount of MTFs

Why should he abandon? There was always a good chance he'd not be good enough here to contend but he said if that was the case he'd help somebody else on the team

It's not about this race for Froome and Sky; it never was. It's about building a training foundation for next season.
