curious to see what VDB2 will do, he pretends preparing for the world ITT and hasn't done very much work, we only saw him on that sateb that Stuyven won doing some work in front of the bunch to reel in some escapees...

For the win it will likely be Kirienka vs Dumoulin.

Kirienka didn't have to go as deep as Dumoulin did this Vuelta.

LuLu will surely win the stage tomorrow, no doubt

Dumoulin
Majka + 1:05
Aru + 1:45
Rodriguez + 2:40

battle for the overall: Aru vs Dumoulin
Battle for 3rd: Majka vs Rodriguez

Purito said after a recon of the course he expected a pancake flat one but it's harder than he thought.

This is the track:
First 24km
Next 10.5km with the climb to the Castillo, ~300m at 10%

From there it's slighty downhill towards the city centre again.
Well, I'm not sure if it's better or worse for Purito than a pancake flat time trial.
These mild gradients over short stretches are rouleurs' cup of tea more than climbers'.
Maybe that's why he's saying it's harder than he expected... harder for him.

That cracked me up!

It is a power ITT, I don't know who's gonna win, probably Kiryenka, he is well rested after taking 3 days off plus today, making that 4.

Those short slopes are nothing for someone attacking them at 48 km/h . TD will go thru them like a hot knife thru butter, that will not be the same for a light weight like Rodriguez.

But even though I think TD is not winning this stage, I think he's gonna blow all 3 pretenders out of the water.

I actually think Rodriguez will do better than Aru. Maybe even better than Majka. He seems upbeat about the TT. I think he will race against Majka/Aru's interim times instead of focusing on Dumoulin.

Do you have a profile with the gradients? Both Dumoulin and Rodriguez have said that the start is rolling, not pancake flat. And the finish should be technical with a climb.

Well, Purito is just an extremely bad time trialist. IMO his TT abilities are about as much worse than Majka's than Majka's are worse than Dumoulin's

We need a profile with the first 17,5k and the last 10k. And how is the weather going to be like? Purito will hope for rain. Majka will hope for heat.

A technical descent in the finale is not good for Majka. Great descenders like Dumoulin and Purito could gain some time on him there.

But he is a better descender and bike handler than Majka. If the finale is difficult enough, it could be good for him. I'd still like to see a real profile with gradients.

My expectations:

Majka can't win the Vuelta. His advantage on Dumoulin is way too small and he won't do much in the final stages. Podium at best.

Aru is the worst time trialist. If it's between him and Rodriguez he will lose. Dumoulin might overtake him too. Even the podium isn't certain.

Dumoulin will be very close to the red jersey, but even if he takes it he might still lose it on Saturday.

Purito has improved his time trial skills over the years and will be extremely motivated. The leader jersey gives wings. After all those second and third places he might finally win a Grand Tour. He must feel that his name belongs on that list of Vuelta champions.

Purito and Aru should be within 10-20 second of each other. And I dont see them losing more than 2 minutes to Doumolin. And even if Tom manages to gain the lead by around 30 sec, they can still get it back on next stages. More than 30 sec would put Tom as a huge favorite to finish in red.

Majka did improve his TT skills quite a bit, at least according to his own words and recent results somehow back that up. But he is the biggest mystery for me tomorrow. He can easily gain around 30 sec to 1 min on both Purito and Aru, but at the same time I wouldnt be surprised if he finishes behind both. Either way, it wont really matter. Unless his pulls ITT of his life and gain over 1:30 on Aru and Rodriguez (which wont happen), he will most likely finish 4th. He seems to be more concerned of keeping his Top 4 position, than fighting for the podium. He is riding very defensively and dont see him gaining any time on Aru and Purito in last 3 stages.

You mean the that TT that made the forum go in the most epic meltdown in the history of epicness?

Who's the biggest douche we'd need for that in the mix?

How would you rate top 10 in terms of TT skills?

I'd say:
Dumoulin
..
..
Valverde
Meintjes
Quintana
Moreno
Majka
Purito/Aru
Nieve
..
Chaves

And what is the chance of Dumoulin catching both Nieve and Chaves?

This could be an absolute cracker. I don't think the gap between Purito and Aru will be that big, maybe 10s either way. The big unknown is how much time Dumoulin will take after tough 2 weeks in the saddle. I hope the red jersey inspires Purito to do a super TT.
