To do well in this prologue a rider needs to be very good time trialist besides being explosive climber.
So, I'm not sure it's Purito's cup of tea. On the other hand, Alaphilippe might upset the favourites.
And I have to notice that these ASO's uphill time trials are beautiful for effort engineering. Especially the one at Tour. I bet Kerrison's having fun combining watts, cadences and heartbeats by the ascent sectors. This one at the Dauphine is more simple to extrapolate. A simple positively sped up curve should do the work.
I don't buy the 'need to be a very good time trialist'. It will largely come down to who is the best and most explosive climber, not time trial skills. It is an advantage to be able to measure your effort as you do in regular time trials, but if you don't have the legs needed, its of no importance who is the best time trialist.
When Purito has done the Tour, his Dauphine-performances have been very underwhelming. His 2011-performance was largely due to riding the Giro and Vuelta, not the Tour. No way he will win if he doesn't take another approach which he most certainly won't considering his 3 biggest goals are ahead of him - Tour, Olympics and Vuelta.
Alaphilippe could be a very exciting dark horse, but I think this will be the highly anticipated Contador/Froome matchup. Im interested what the bookmakers have to say.
