The Criterium du Dauphiné starts on Sunday. It gets a lot of attention because it’s essentially a short Tour de France not long before the main event and so gives some hints about what’s to come. At the same time, it’s essentially a short Tour de France not long before the main event so no-one ever really remembers it.

For the dutch speaking fans, sporza is airing the dauphine again. Last time they did that was in '08 iirc.

He spelled Criterium as Criterium du Dauphiné so I don't see the problem here. We all know that it's not a criterium strictly speaking.

As Krokro said just before me, it's not a criterium despite being called a criterium.

I think it will be a very close race!
I imagine Froome won't be great 1st stage as he hasn't done much racing this year, but i think he will improve throughout the tour.
He's said a lot about trying to be better in the 3rd week of the tour and Olympics, hence less racing.
But i expect one of Froome or Contador to be on top form, and when one of them is they are a class above the rest.

Aru is more of a unknown than Froome, I expect Landa to not be on great form as he was peaking at the giro and wont be looking for another peak in form right now. You can only peak so many times in a season and be at your best. I think Porte will be good, he loves the 1 week stage races and on his day you could argue he's the 2nd best climber in the world.

Despite being a Froome fan this is what i reckon will happen:

Pinot
A Yates
Rosa

.
.
Aru somewhere behind not on top form

Valverde peaks year long !
Porte considered as the second best climber ? He was awesome as a Lt in Sky but he hasn't proven anything this season. Im still curious what he can do as a leader !

Or we have too high hopes for him, or a mixture. I agree that Paris-Nice was a bit of a weird race, he looked in OK shape (only lost around 3 minutes in last two stages) but finished like 10 down. At Pais Vasco he lost 2 minute son the first stage, another in the next (hard summit finish though and working for Aru, so respectable) then in the bunch then lost 11(!) minutes to Orio then beasted it to Eibar like a boss and had a decent TT. At Romandie he was ill (I think) and Algarve a domestique. He was 7th in Valencia though, which was nice, despite losing a minute to Xorret deal Catí, where once again Aru outclimbed him. He was really good in the Ardennes though, 10th at LBL.

You know what these results tell me? STAY IN ONE-DAY RACES DIEGO!!!! Please

Meh, I'd rather have Sporza broadcast TdS like they used to. France3 will air CdD anyway. So now I'll have to watch Eurosport which makes me veyr unhappy.

Would be a great idea if Cannondale is sending Uran to the Dauphiné. If there was one extra mountain stage in the Giro, he would have been the strongest climber in that race.

in 1 week races he has shown he can do quite a lot as a leader (obviously not this year so far).

Give him time. Only epic champs like Contador can switch teams seamlessly. LRP just needs time to adapt, especially now that he's the co-leader with TJVG.

No he's no the 2nd best climber period. But on his had he can be, he has beaten Valverde, Quintana, Contador, Pinot, etc etc in Tour Mountain finishes.
