i am already cribbing why i didnt pick Amador from my shortlist.

i could have used the extra 100 points to choose someone else

Strategy i used for this giro:

one rider moderately costly, and will give me a few podiums and a definite top-5 GC. options were piti(too expensive, fair price of about 1200), nibbles(expensive, fair price of about 1400), Landa(1100 is high), Zakarin, Majka.

Next: about 2-3 riders(i ended up picking 3) in the not too costly, not too cheap category. Had to pick Pozzo, Uran, and birdsong was cheap. ideally, all three should top-10. worst case, all are top-20 with eyes closed.

I love Anton and Capecchi. both will deliver if they get a chance.

Next step was some sprinter. i picked sabatini. (i dont know why i picked him)

i was searching for a flecha. ended up picking de marchi. Last year's Veulta had something to do with pick.

Ruffoni almost in profit, Porsev also scoring. I'm happy so far.

This time I was pretty quick with possible teams. It was not so difficult points wise as even the most expensive riders would fit in a good team. Problem was there was not a clear favorite. It's still Nibali for me despite showing nothing in the last weeks. Second favorite Valverde, but he's never ridden the Giro and I feared cold weather and of course you can't pair him with Nibali. Landa can podium, should be at least top 5 and should score some points in mountain stages. I chose him over Zakarin who is a unknown as GC contender in a Grand Tour.
I didn't go for cheaper GC contenders like Majka, Pozzovivo, Uran, Chaves and a good sprinter (Kittel) as I didn't think the TT kilometers would suit Chaves and the rest hasn't shown anything this far to pick them over Nibali. I didn't know Kittel intends to finish the Giro but then I don't think I would have begun from scratch when reading it Thursday night.
My aim is a top 15.

Stage 2 The Giroprijs

KITTEL Marcel 70 16 teams
DEMARE Arnaud 40 0 team
MODOLO Sacha 25 0 team
DUMOULIN Tom 18 0 team
HOFLAND Moreno 15 0 team
RUFFONI Nicola 10 23 teams
PORSEV Alexander 7 5 teams
EWAN Caleb 5 2 teams
SBARAGLI Kristian 3 1 team
AMADOR BIKKAZAKOVA Andrey 2 1 team
NIZZOLO Giacomo 1 0 team

Kittel doesn't disappoint those who calculated that stage win points are worth investment, and Ruffoni is already good value for 13 points (but whether he is good value for 11.11% of the spots available is another issue). Amador turns out to be a top ten sprinter, as well as a top 3 time trialist: who would've thought it?

Points earned
1 LightBing 87 (Kittel, Ruffoni and Porsev)
2= Nine teams that link Kittel and Ruffoni 80
11 Yellow_Knight 77 (Kittel and Porsev)
12 BluesInTheBottle 75 (Kittel and Ewan)
13= The remaining four Kittel teams 70
17= Comodoro & Rote_Laterne 17 (Ruffoni and Porsev)
19= Eleven other teams with Ruffoni 10
30 Josedin 8 (Ewan & Sbaragli)
31 JosephD 7 (Porsev)
32 Jancouver 2 (Amador)
and 19 of us got nothing

Standings
Guaranteed points only for now: I'll add in projected category points when those lists take on some shape.

More teams scoring higher returns than yesterday, so high correlation between today's table and this one.

It wasn't just stage wins, I was hoping that Kittel would have taken pink on this stage and started to rack up some leader points as well.

Kittel did better than I had expected in the ITT to be able to be in with a chance of getting Pink today, and given that he probably won't be in the lead group on stage 4, I didn't expect him to wear the 18 point jersey at any stage. There was also a lot of speculation that he would not finish the race, and maybe not even try to finish an Italian stage, so I was surprised, as the entries came in, that so many had spent 638 points on a rider with what looked like a 140 point earnings maximum.

Stage 3 Stage 2 rewound

Probably inevitable that the same riders as yesterday would feature: Kittel's teams will hope he stays around for a while, Viviani and Sbaragli, both far from cheap selections, have begun to repay those who have trusted them, and Porsev might have the consistency to be the best bargain sprinter pick.

Seems like a Kittel is a must for this game ... I can't imagine anyone without Kittel winning this game

Not sure if serious or...

Well if he wins tomorrow then he has the equivalent of 5th overall. That is a big impact on the game. Wouldn't say anybody without him is out of it, but I would certainly prefer to have him than not

I'd say he needs another 2 victories before he turns into a must have. If he remains in the Giro, he'll very likely get those victories. I personally already regret picking Uran over Kittel. Even though Uran can still score better than Kittel, people with Kittel in their team will be on top of the leaderboard for at least 2 more weeks.

Stage 4 Italy at last

If I had started recording projected GC changes yet, today would have been much more interesting. The lower echelons of the top ten had some fairly popular riders, but we missed the big scorers.

Stage 5 A Kittel-less sprint

Not only Kitte-less, but lacking almost any selected sprinter:

GREIPEL André 70 pts 0 team
DEMARE Arnaud 40 pts 0 team
COLBRELLI Sonny 25 pts 1 team
DUMOULIN Tom 18 pts 0 team
JUNGELS Bob 15 pts 4 teams
HOFLAND Moreno 10 pts 0 team
BELLETTI Manuel 7 pts 1 team
ZABEL Rick 5 pts 0 team
PREIDLER Georg 3 pts 0 team
EWAN Caleb 2 pts 2 teams
TSATEVICH Alexei 1 pts 0 team

Points earned
Not many today:
1 Trudgin 25
2 BluesInTheBottle 17
3 BicycleBoy 15
3 Barmaher 15
3 Bbass 15
6 ArchieBoy 7
7 Josedin 2

A unique pick of Colbrelli gives Trudgin the daily honours, Blues in the Bottle is the only one to have 2 of today's top ten (Jungels and Ewan). Blues in the Bottle was the only scorer today who is in the top 15, he rises to 4th in the guaranteed points ranking. ArchieBoy has a mixed day: he breaks his duck, but he and Yellow Knight lose their Blue jersey/stage-hunter hope, Fraile.

Standings
There is so little movement in the guaranteed points table, that I'll post the projected points table, if only so that the presumably very large jumps in it tomorrow have some context.

For those new to the game, the projected points table allocates the points for GC, Mountains and Points as though the Giro had finished today, as well as the stage points and pink jersey bonuses that are in the guaranteed points tables.

This one stage early on is enough to justify my selection:
Points gained:
1 Murali 75 (Fuglsang, Zakarin, Pozzovivo and Uran)

Of course, counts for nothing for final result as the real riders havent started earning yet.

Stage 7 Another shot for the sprinters

Guaranteed Points
Kittel's relatively low price and ability to beat the field if he is there means that any sprint in which he does not feature is unlikely to yield many points.

Standings
Lightbing's lead may look substantial, but the expected rises of Nibali and Landa would see it dissipate very quickly if expectations are fulfilled. Previous leader Minessa hangs on well despite the loss of most of Fuglsang's points, but is also overtaken by GPBlanco, who leaps from 8th to second. Del1962, DJW, Crevaison, Yellow Knight and Carlo Algatrensig all jump into the top ten.

Tomorrow might bring about almost as much change.

Spent a long time deciding between the similarly priced Kittel and Viviani... thought Kittel would abandon after stage 7 while Viviani would go all the way and go for the points jersey, showing that he's at a similar level to the two German sprinting superstars.

How wrong was I
