Firsanov was even stopped by the Tinkoff-car going up the climb.

Let's hope there'll be no problems when the really important riders go up. With all the cars, motos, and fans one could fear so.
The three minute time gaps will save that

What does a 4th place in l'Avenir mean then? Look at who's in front of him... Lopez and Power are good climbers too.

So was Slagter. So was Jaco Venter. So was Gilbert.
As a pro he's been nowhere. Even in this very Giro.

Until today he's done nothing all season. Suddenly he's a rocket man. It's really funny.
Ofcourse today is very, very strong, but you were talking about "non-climbing tt specialist". And that was wrong.

Ulissi 4th without even sprinting for the line. I think the big names can drop faster times

You could say the exact same thing about a guy like Vervaeke, who was behind him in l'Avenir. Foliforov was second in two mountain stages at l'Avenir which weren't won from a break, which is a good sign for his cllimbing abilities. Slagter was 5th just before Michael Matthews in the last climbing stage at l'Avenir for example... I am not too amazed that some guys need some more time to get going.

He was 12th on friday, not too shabby huh?

He finished in the same group as all the favorites on stage 13. In a group of only 14 riders. That's not nothing. And the Avenir-result is not a one-off. He has a lot of great results in mountain stages and time trials from 2014 and some from 2015 as well. His best time trials have contained climbing, so it's not exactly from nowhere, although it is definitely another level and surprising.

No day off for Scarponi by the looks of it.
He was interviewed by RAI just before the start and said he was not going all out.
Which tells me the top riders will ride much faster than this.

Scarponi not taking it easy.

Firsanov would have smashed this had he not been held up by the Tinkoff car.
No, that cost him maybe 10s, definately not 30, so Foliforov would have held

I didn't see it, but was it that bad? That he was behind a car for over 30 seconds.

Highly unlikely!

Scarponi looked like he was just coasting in the last few hundred metres
He sure didn't look like someone who rode it full gas in the post race interview.

Fair enough, looked worse than it was maybe on the reply. Gazprom still in charge either way...
