This is the kind of stage you will never see in France: climbs that aren't high, but steep. An ideal terrain for spectacle! This stage will make clear who the true candidates for the final victory are.

This year's TDF wants a word with you ;) (Hey, better than usual, I'll take it!)

Best case scenario would be an early selection on Montemaggiore and Crai. Those steep gradients could see a 50-ish group at the base of Porzus IMO, then chaos.

In truth, I expect an early break to be let go of before or on Montemaggiore, then what's left of the favorites group to slow down on the flat after Crai and let stragglers rejoin and have a large group before Porzus and then some sort of selection.

Or they softpedal the whole thing. What do I know?

Expect attacks from the ones little behind in GC, like Pozzo, Uran, Zakarin... Also Astana might try with Fuglsang and Movistar with Amador. Descends will going to be crazy I think...

Even if they think he will crack shortly there is no way the top 10 are going to let Amador get a big gap.

Fattycur to go on the attack with the breakaway, drop the rest of the group on the Porzus, hit Valle with 5 minutes on the reduced peleton of favorites and to finish 10 minutes down.

Either breakaway or Valverde from a reduced GC bunch

Zakarin attacks on descent.

If not, then Fulgsang will go early and Nibali will bridge on descent. Valverde and Chavez go with Nibali.
Do not know how useful will be Amador, might depends on the pace of main group. I think the pace will be not high because only Astana nad Movistar have enough in mountains, but Valverde prefers low pace and Nibali waits for his shape to be better (which may not come).

Is Zakarin a good descender? I'm not sure about his bike handling because on TT stage he fell multiple times.

Here in my zone (center Italy) is raining cats and dogs at the moment.
If that's the case up there, it will be carnage for sure.

I'd say breakaway wins it, Jungels and Amador will drop, very small group of GC riders at the end (maybe Nibali, Valverde and Chaves).

Or maybe a super boring conservative race! :(

Zakarin is great bike handler, on condition that rides a bike which takes care of the handling itself. Has not found one yet.
Yeah it was meant to be joke.

The bolded is my worry as well. I'm getting some slight Basso 2012 vibes from Nibali at the moment. Don't think it'll be that bad, but he hasn't looked convincing so far. Obviously I want Valverde to win, but I also want a great race, and for that to happen, we need a strong Nibali.

Breakaway to win this one easily. I don't think you can win this Giro today, but you can lose it.

Looking forward to Zakarin, Majka & Chavez furious attacks, but don't know if anything like this happens...
