Saturday, 21/05/2016 - Igor Anton wins at Corvara

Aupa Fuji!
Would be extremely funny, also because 2011 one day after Anton won, Nieve won the queen stage, so this time one day after Nieve wins, Anton could win the queen stage :D

That stage was epic, the one Nieve won, but Antón cracked badly that day... I had so high hopes after his show in 2010. Does anybody know what the explanation was for cracking that hard after being on of the best climbers in the race previously? He was nowhere to be found in the last week if I remember correctly.

Anyway, I want one of the favourites to win in a solo. Getting slightly tired of the big teams gifting stages away, particularly Movistar.

Break of the day:
Axel Domont, Hugo Houle (Ag2r La Mondiale), Andrey Zeits (Astana), Nicola Boem, Francesco Manuel Bongiorno, Sonny Colbrelli (Bardiani - CSF), Darwin Atapuma (BMC Racing), Moreno Moser, Nathan Brown (Cannondale), Kanstantsin Siutsou (Dimension Data), David De La Cruz, Matteo Trentin (Etixx-QuickStep), Sergey Firsanov (Gazprom-RusVelo), Stefan Denifl (IAM Cycling), Diego Ulissi, Valerio Conti, Sacha Modolo, Manuele Mori (Lampre-Merida), Tim Wellens, Pim Ligthart, Maxime Monfort (Lot Soudal), Carlos Betancu, José Herrada (Movistar), Damiano Cunego, Giacomo Berlato (NIPPO-Vini Fantini), Ruben Plaza (Orica GreenEDGE), Georg Preidler (Giant-Alpecin), Egor Silin, Rein Taaramae (Katusha), Twan Castelijns, Primoz Roglic (Lotto NL-Jumbo), Christian Knees, Nicolas Roche (Sky), Laurent Didier (Trek-Segafredo), Matteo Busato, Daniel Martinez (Wilier-Southeast).

Strong and sizeable break. Great chance for Plaza, Firsanov, Betancur in particular.

Betancur? He was miserable yesterday
Yes, don't know what was wrong, but that was not his 'normal' level. Two days earlier he survived in a select GC group, so I hope he can reach that level today.

I would say Firsanov vs. Domont vs. Siutsou

I think it would be foolish to read too much negative into that regarding his chances today. He is one of the top 3 chances from this break.

How come Visconti missed this break? Is he going for the KOM jersey or not?

A bit disappointing. Let's hope Denifl will try to steal some KOM points cause if Cunego takes all today the battle for the blue jersey is already over.
Idunno tho, as long as Denifl does steal a bunch of GPMs from Cunego he may still be in it, after last year when it was Bananito vs. Beñat all the way, then Gio had a bunch of leftover points from earlier in the race and trying to protect Beñat, got in the break on the day with the Cima Coppi, took that to suddenly vault up the standings, then just took a couple more high profile mountaintops with his strong sprint to take the jersey.

I hope break does not win, I put bet to Nibali win stage today :)

34 riders in the break. Slim chance the winner won't come from it.

Allthough only 1 Astana rider could suggest high pace from the in the mountains. Not too sure about all the riders except Fuglsang and Scarponi in the mountains. They have been dissapointing so far.
