Isn't the Agnello decent just a typical fast alpine descent? Not sure it's the kind of descent where you can gap people.

If I remember correctly, yes; I don't think I remember it as overly technical.

You are correct it's not technical at all, its a fast flowing alpine descent so if they want to gap Kruijswijk it will have to be on the uphill

It might be hard to make up ground alone if the rider you are chasing has teammates so the descent can work both ways. Because of this maybe they don't need a huge gap on the hill.

No way, the gaps will be really huge!

I'd say it is more like:

1. Chavez
2. Krujswijk +1:00
3. Uran s.t (from the break).
4. Zakarin +2:00
5. Majka +2:30
6. Valverde +3:30
7. Nibali +4:00

Krushweak gets screwed by a mechanical and loses 4 minutes before the final mountain. He claws back 2 minutes and still has one left over Chaves.
That would be good :D

Nibali and Majka, what were they talking about yesterday at the end of the stage?
A doubtful alliance?! Attacking plans?!
More likely Nibali invited him for a summer vacation in Sicily, thoug. :p

Perhaps Majka has been saving himself for a kamikaze attack in the final two mountain stages. Crush them when they least expect it!

There are some rumours about Majka's potential move to Bahrain project, so....

Yeah well, I’ve read about it, but surely they can talk privately instead of during the finish of a 244 km stage… :D

Re: 2016 Giro d'Italia, Stage 19: Pinerolo - Risoul (162 km

I don't know what to expect for this stage, it could be heaven or it could be a hellish disappointment. Now, as a Dutchman, a borefest would be softened by knowing it helps Kruijswijk, but as a cycling fan, I prefer an exciting stage.

However, I fear a bit for the stage as all of the opponents have had their weak moments and probably have doubts regarding their form.

Chavez lost half a minute this week to Valverde and has seen a strong Valverde yesterday. As he has never finished on the podium before, I suspect he doesn't want to gamble it all away. Sure, he's quite vocal in the media, but pessimistic me thinks that could rather be a PR-game to ensure his nearest rivals for second think he's strong. He just has to convince his opponents that risking an attack and gambling their own placing isn't worth it as he will be able to counter anyway.

Valverde probably has doubts about the length of the climbs and the altitude. He wasn't strong in the Dolomites and knows he potentially has a lot to lose here. I don't think he will gamble his podium with an all-out attack and an all-out attack is certainly what he would need to challenge Kruijswijk or even Chavez. Now, I doubt he's strong enough on this type of climbs anyway.

Nibali, well, what can we say about him? I don't think he was that weak in the Dolomites, he just wasn't the top dog everyone thought he would be. He kept pace for most of the stage with Chavez and Kruijswijk and only couldn't follow when Kruijswijk and Chaves attacked with a relatively short effort (~10 minutes?) above their functional threshold. I think it shows that Nibali has a decent base, but lacked the peak and the sharpness to accelerate and ride well above the FT, something that also showed in the MTT and the short and fast Tuesday stage. I'd say he could do better this weekend, peaking a bit too late, or his form could further deteriorate. I don't think he himself knows, so I suspect that if he's going to do an all-out attack, it will be tomorrow, with the knowledge of his legs he gained today.

So, Chavez, Valverde, and Nibali all have reasons to doubt and that might hurt the stage.

What is the expected time on the top of Agnello?
I have to take care of something in the afternoon so that I can see this beauty :)

I just hope the break won't make it as I really hope Kruijswijk wins the stage today or tomorrow. He will have to get rid of Valverde and Chaves though.

I think the most likely attacked on the Angello is Zakarin. I am not sure Astana or Movistar will want to set a really strong pace while Orica and Lotto don't have the riders to do so.

First 3/4 of this stage is exactly the same as stage 18 in the 2011 Tour. Will be doing well if today is half as epic as that. Thinking about it made me realise how much I miss Andy Schleck. Imagine if 2011 Andy was in this race?

How mant points can you win on Cima Coppi? Is there a possible threat for Cunego?

Atapuma to work for people who aren't Kruijswijk/Chaves as vengeance for them spoiling his previous big attack lol

Maybe, but I'm not only thinking about Gazprom... ;)

Edit: it's 40 points for Cima Coppi

Hopefully Nibi has recovered a bit, so Nibi and the rabid Russian can do their thing.

It would be nice if Nibali can at least get a good stage win as a reward for all the attacking that he's done this Giro, but he really needs to get back to Corvara level to do that......
