Going for a Wellens + Colbrelli attack on the final ramp with 9k to go staying clear, with Colbrelli taking the two-up sprint

Good shout, forgot about Wellens

Well, with 40 points out on the road every day, going in lots of breakaways actually looks like a viable way of winning the points competition. There will be plenty of days where the Nizzolos and Modolos don't score any points. Go Pippo! :D

Boem and Gilbert both got very close last year

Today I have meetings at 3 and 4 pm... so you can be fairly sure this will blow up from the very first hill

not every day though, only on the flat(tish) stages (2a - 3a - 4a - 5a - 7a - 11a - 12a - 17a - 21a). On the others there are only 8 to 10 points available per intermediate sprint.

But yes, theoretically there is a possibility the jersey is won by breakaway riders, especially with some of the big hitters likely to abandon the race at some point - but on the other hand, for teams like Trek and Lampre it's also fairly easy to prevent Tjallingi et al from joining the break, so in case he becomes a danger man, he just won't be allowed to go clear anymore I guess

Anyone know what the weather is like?!
About 20°C and mostly sunny.
I don't think that Vino will unchain the wolves just yet, bot Movistar should make the race hard, Valverde should try to get as many bonus seconds and possible.

Im loving this scenario as well, totally did not mention Wellens previously. As LTS has nothing huge to playing GC, nor in sprints lel, they could aim this stage. At least Wellens will go full tard as we love to see him doing !

Im seing Valverde more and more and why not, but I sincerely hope not. It would mean that the big GC teams would neutralize the race by countering any big favorite attack. If not, it might be more interesting to see the fight between less dangerous riders like punchers and sprinters teams.

Wellens would be awesome on his birthday, but I don't think he's gonna win today.

Cool thanks, was hoping for some wind.

Wondering if Cancellara and Trek will make it hard and then attempt to get some bonus seconds in the sprint?

Bonus seconds with who? Nizzolo is their best in GC, 32 seconds behind.

Cancellara. Cheeky sprint, take a few seconds and possibly in pink after the next TT. If he still wants it then it's worth a shot.

Ill give a beer at Flanders next year if Cancellara is close to the pink jersey in Chianti!!

Im really looking forward towards this stage. After Kittel's dominance, I expect fireworks on the climbs to try and kill him dead. And then for Tom to take the pink back of course.

No way he's getting pink. He is so unlucky with his form right now. Maybe a top 5 max in the ITT ?

Lets say 1-2 minutes, not that he probably ever will make that up on Dumoulin on that TT

Cancellara lost 2 minutes in the 2nd stage and 6 minutes in the 3rd stage.

Whops, I didn't even realised he had lost time prior, but it won't matter cause stage 6 anyways. I paid that much attention to the first stages in NL....

Damn! I didn't check the results, just assumed he'd finished in the pack. :(

Vini Nippo missed the break and is chasing at the front of the peleton. Meanwhile the breakaway is laughing their ass off.

Jungels might be keen to keep the jersey for the team.

Moser and Brandle should by rights be interested here.

I'd be happy with an heroic breakaway stay away first Italian win via Boem.

Boem and Brandle in the four man break :)
