Man, Sky destroy exciting racing.

Tbf, that race would have been less exciting if Sky completely cracked. The fact that Thomas got back into it just made it even more intense
I would have preferred to see Thomas completely cracking and Contador winning the gc, but yeah because Sky fought back the stage became even more interesting. :D

Contador launched today 6 (!!!) accelerations until he cracked the group. This kind of punchiness is reminiscent of 2014.

Eh, the whole reason that was exciting because of Sky's chase. Contrasts in styles almost always make for exciting racing and the battle between Sky's tempo and Bertie's explosiveness is always fantastic to watch.

Gallopin is a *** actually. Great stage by Bertie, such a shame that he lost 5 seconds the other day

F**K, but what a stage! Grande racing, the kind of stuff that makes me still Adore cycling after 50+ years

Exactly, complain all you like about the result, but f*****g hell, what a race

These comments pretty much say it all. This stage explains why road cycling is such a great sport.

Regardless, this was hardly one of the most exciting stages ever as people are claiming. Some back and forth grind doesn't make it an epic. Sure, it was very nice.

We cannot complain about the excitement, only the result. This was a great stage.
We all know who the best rider was, and that is what really matters
why the hell one should complain about the result or thomas doesn't deserve it, ah?
Let's just say it had been more interesting to see Thomas without his teammate ;)

It wouldn't have been interesting at all, it would have been an easy win for someone else.
My point is that it would have been interesting to see Thomas fight for himself for once. I am genuinely interested in seeing if he can handle a crisis-situation on his own. We never got the chance to see if he can do that this time.

Great racing by Contador, great strength and determination by Thomas.

Good sport requires good competition, therefore excellence by at least 2 competitors, and that is what made this such good racing.

I can understand why this will have bee frustrating for those partisan towards Contador, but that is why I find cycling more enjoyable to follow without having any die-hard favourite.

If Contador had outsprinted Wellens (however unlikely that might have been), the extra bonus time would have made the time difference 0: would it have been won by Contador because he won a stage, or what?

The answer is simple. Hell no. He was on the elastic the entire climb of the Col d'Eze and the only reason he didn't drop earlier is because the elasticity of the group at that point.

Thrilling stage.

Lovely win for Wellens. Suck it people crying about Gallopin riding just because it meant Bertie wouldn't win GC lol

Nail on the head!

For the record I would have been just as happy to see Bert win after that performance. But no point blaming Gallopin for riding the best race for himself and his team, rather than expecting him to cheer for a preferred GC winner :D

That is normal in light of the excitement straight after the stage. The truth is this was a great stage, but indeed we get at least one of these per year, usually more like 5 to 10 I would guess.

It's a bit like which would you prefer - 3 weeks of Contador smashing Froome in July or a neck and neck race won by a single second by Froome. Preferred outcome and interesting race are two completely different things
