Echelons are one of the most beautiful things to watch in cycling. Amazing how the riders try to protect themselves from the wind.

Echelons really are beautiful. The TDF should have a couple of flat stages alongside the northwestern and the southeastern shore every year for maximum echelon chances. :)

Froome driving on the front

Shouldn't he be saving his energy for Ventoux tomorrow?

me too! make so much difference to the outcome, and you can actually see it happening before your eyes.

People are starting to worry about tomorrow's stage - forecasters are saying 150kph headwinds on the ventoux  Any of you older fans seen Echelons on a mountain before? Or is there srious risk they would call it off?

Clinic reasons aside, another reason Froome was so bad before 2011 was that he always wasted a lot of energy, literally attacking every time he felt good, instead of saving energy. Froome getting too eager and wasting energy is a very familiar tale

The backup plan is to run it as far as Chalet Reynard which would still give you almost 10km of climbing. The wind is really only a big problem on the top because it's so exposed - the trees give significant shelter lower down.
