You cant go late either. There was no way he was winning that sprint, he should have gambled and refused to work if he wanted to win
 
So, another dull high mountain stage from the GC. Poels easily pulling in numerous attacks from Aru, Bardet and Valverde. Froome so comfortable that he can fake attacks and laugh at other riders for trying to distance him on the flat.

He's not gutless, he just doesn't have the power. They sent Valverde on a 'test attack' to see if there were any signs of weakness from Froome or the Sky train, but they looked as strong as ever. Pointless Quintana attacking in that situation; he'd just have ended up losing more time like on Ventoux.
