Lol wtf is Sagan doing? Targeting the sprint? Sorry if this has been covered--I only tuned in right before Contador abandoned.
And the stage win.
He won't win this stage
Well, with this big gap to the peloton, he should give it a go, he might end up in front of the peloton, which would mean extra points in the battle for green.
I think he can.

Well, his DS did want him to still be there. Perhaps they did want him to work for Kreuziger and Majka and generally be a presence in the race. Actually doing his job, rather than riding solo himself around Lugano for the next two weeks.

Said who? I hear an on the road interview with Yates and he said no such thing.
It was pretty clear from the conversations Contador kept having with the team car, and the frosty reception he got when he quit. Yates probably not stupid or disrespectful enough to criticize a colleague in public about something like that - it seems that Tinkoff have enough problems in-house without adding fuel to the fire.

In other words based totally your interpretation and perception of events.
Yes, just like you're conclusions, based on one interview.

Yes an interview with the DS you said wanted him to stay in the race. In other words from the man's mouth.

So Sky are letting the break go now. Interesting to see if any other team step up or if nobody in the peloton wants the stage win enough.

Froome already has an epic stage win and Quintana is rumoured to be waiting for the 4th week of the Tour before making a move

I do expect him to try something before the fourth week, but I expect it to be an unimaginative effort on the final MTF. Too little too late, as though Movistar just expects to win the race without actually doing anything for it.

To many good climbers in the break for Sagan to take the stage

Yes, because a DS would always tell the truth in that sitution. As you said, it's just my interpretation of events. I didn't realise this thread was just for posting facts and word for word transcripts from DS interviews. As they say, a picture is worth a 1000 words - and it was pretty obvious to me what the pictures were saying.

Sagan's has done well on MTFs when the motivation is there (e.g. California).

The climbs in California are comically easy compared to this stuff. The competition is also less intense. A stage win at the Tour > a win in California, so the grades are more difficult and will be raced harder.

Ops :p
Oh, well, it looks like he's satisfied with the intermediate sprint today and would rather save energy for another day.

That was to win the overall, anyway we are a long way from My Baldy in terms of the class of riders he's up against. The guy is super talented but he will get dropped today
Sure. I'm just pointing out that Sagan winning few mountain stages has more to do with his priorities as a rider than with his physical abilities.
