Not sure it was anything to do with Contador. It's not like he's going to be a threat to Quintana anyway.
For several commentators in this forum everything has to do with Contador. But yeah, that would not be very smart on Movi's part, IMHO.

David Millar on itv was adamant the break had no chance even at 15 minutes, bizarre
 Really strange thing to say, especially with a rider as powerful as GVA there. It's hardly high mountains.

I really don't get it why Etixx didn't had one rider pulling in the peloton, for an eventual stage win or yellow jersey. Even if Alaphilippe is bad, you still have Martin.

It's insanity. Ok, the favourites on stages like this are a lot less likely to win as compared to random outsiders than in a flat sprint stage, but Etixx have two of the three biggest favourites. For God's sake use some of your domestiques to give them a chance.

One of the French boys will try it and maybe an outsider like Aru or Porte (since I don't think the latter should need to sit on to help TJVG finish with the rest today)

Indeed. I've always found it strange how some teams are willing to sacrifice their entire team to get a flat sprint, while almost no teams are willing to sacrifice anyone on stages like this, even if they on paper would have a great chance of winning.

It's a lot harder to chase in the hills. You need riders to be able to ride hard over hills. A lot of teams have no team for it.
They lost all of the time on the flat though, they could easily have kept the gap below 6 minutes going into the climbs.

Perhaps unless they're already trying to defend Valverde's third place :D

I know, its like Iran or North-Korea in the narrow mindness in here. They also know it all and have all the state run muscle on their side. Meanwhile i do reply when you critic me, but never critic anyway when they do what we suppose to do; discuss the race. Simple.

Certainly true. Etixx brought a team for Kittel, not for their puncheurs I guess.
