Because of the cold and rain, this stage was for people who carried a little bit more of fat for insulation and fueling purposes whereas skinny cyclists like G & TJ cracked.

Nah. Their competition is atleast as skinny, with the exception of Spilak, but he carries more muscle most of all.
Poels won L-B-L this year and he's freaking skinny.

Some handle is better than others. Or maybe they simply weren't that good.

I'm on a school trip in the Ötztal since last sunday which means that I can see the race live today. Unfortunately I cant watch it on the rettenbachferner but if you see a big group of teenagers in the middle of the stage, i'm probably one of them. :D

Muscles also helps keeping you warm.

But it's probably more about mentality, as well as daring to put enough clothes on. A lot of cyclist are worried about the extra weight of adding layers, but it's often worth it in such conditions. Apparently Dombro wore a Gabba and TWO rain jackets...

TJVG another victim of the weight cult.

I wanted to watch the stage on the Rettenbachferner but I can't due to other obligations.
Most really skinny riders suffer more in the cold, that's just how it is, there are a few exceptions like Nibali and Zakarin, but more mass keeps you warm.
Dombrowski was pretty smart and put on a few extra jackets.
This year Poels doesn't seem to be as skinny as he used to be and before 2016 the guy had a history of really suffering and loosing time on cold days ( the 2014 Stelvio stage or Monte Terminillo durning 2015 T-A), he used to be a prime example of a really skinny guy who suffers cold weather.

And yet people continue to ignore the evidence staring them right in the face...

Keisse, Brandle and Tolhoek, not exactly climbers, in the break. Should be a good GC-battle for the stage today.

At least Katusha should chase for the stage. For the other teams I have some doubts if they will.

Iljo Keisse ftw although an Austrian winning in Austria would also be nice. So Brändle ftw!
