Great action from the big three again - really animating the race and deserving of their top three positions in the overall.

Peña Cabarga is like Froome's Mount Doom, the place where his great power was forged into fearsome weapon. He was never going to lose here

Well if what Froome said at the start of the Vuelta is true, that he aims to ride himself in to form by week 3 rather than fade away, then this Vuelta is far from over given that long flat TT next week.

Kudos to König for galvanizing and leading the chase for a while and diminishing the gap established by his teammate to the rivals behind.

But wouldn't that mean Pena Cabarga is the place where his stem should be thrown into the lava to cause his destruction?

Froome seemed more interested in the stage win than GC there. He'd usually look behind to see if he managed any gaps on Quintana

Pretty sure the Dark Lord was defeated at/by Mount Doom, whichever way you look at it.

Luckily for Froome, there is no lava there, even though it's pretty hot.

Awesome win by Froomey. Unfortunately only got home midway the climb so couldn't time it yet.

Looks like Froome is riding to his form. Impressive. Quintana will start to fade.
Saturday will reveal all I think. It was too stop-start for Quintana at the end and he was never going to beat Froome in a sprint. I don't think Froome can really afford to drop off the back and do his own thing on Aubisque, because if he lets Quintana just ride on the front at a steady uphill TT pace, he'll lose at least another 30 seconds to him. He's got to hang with him and try to make him attack away multiple times.
