Obviously. Maybe he'll allow Contador some freedom on stage 17/20 though

Froome will too presumably? After Contador derailed his Vuelta ambitions again? (2014 aswell)

I think not.
Froome will be watching Quintana.

Maybe he cannot win, but he can decide the race.

So he is riding to "stick it" to Froome?

LOL, that some Lance like behavior.

He's riding because that's what he does. He's shown it time and time again. Lance like? That's ironic coming from a Sky fan, who mimic the USPS style more than any team in years.

Quintana and Conti up the road with 5 teammates in total and a bunch of other riders who are willing to work

Nairo taking his first pulls. 13kph tail winds about to become cross winds, btw. So wind won't impact the race much.

why orica not riding? (Not that I"m hoping they are.. :).
Happy to stay 4th and 5th on GC, or more likely waiting until later to chase like crazy.

Weird that people think Astana is protecting their gc spot. They simply like Sky/Froome more than Movistar/Quintana, that's it.

Same reason why Contador is riding so hard. He doesn't like Sky. Obviously he would never ride like this if Froome was in his group and Quintana was behind.
Astana and Sky haven't had the best history, particularly Nibs and Froome.

Are the Chaves-Quintana and Sanchez-Contador friendships playing a role?

Nibali doesn't call the shots at Astana.

Maybe in a parallel universe where steeper climbs produce bigger differences, which is definitely not what actually happens in the real world.
Eh??

Not if he's 5 minutes down he won't be. Contador even will be ahead of him in GC.

Contador and Quintana are in a break with 2:55 ahead of the Froome/Chaves group. Astana or Orica are chasing. Skybots are mostly behind the Froome group.

The sky team at the vuelta isn't much of a train to be fair.

Kenny and Fraile chasing as well. Brilliant!

Why shouldn't they work?

Chasing with Alberto, be part of a legendary break, grabbing some mountain points and maybe a good stage result, or not working and not getting a thing at all.

Yeah and Quintana had a word with them, I think he told them that they would not going to get any KOM points if they don't work

Exactly.

I'm curious to see what Orica will do on the second climb. Ride an inferiour pace in the hope of dropping Froome?

The gap right now is 3 minutes. Plenty of kms left to close the gap and there's the TT.

It's not the first time this has happened in a stage race. Although a first in GTs as far as I can remember (not including 2013 Giro).

You'd still be surprised Kennaugh and König got set so far adrift, though.

Guys I don't know about you, but what a disgusting loser Contador is turning out to be. At this point, he is doing nothing more than making Quintana win this Vuelta. Quintana barely works, like the wheelsucker he is.

Alberto and Tinkoff should stop working NOW!

That way Movistar and Quintana are forced to work at 100%, otherwise Froome comes back, and Alberto can try and take time on Quintana on the last climb.

As things are now, Alberto is looking like an ignorant fool, and some of the usual haters that only want to see Froome lose at all costs can't see it.

But hey, he's fighting for his podium spot, gaining time on Froome, Chaves, Yates and Konig - all riders ahead of him in the GC except Quintana.

While Froome was watching "Jungle Book" on his powermeter screen, Contador attacked, Stoneface was sharp and followed and now they have some 3 minutes to Dawg.

Just because I commented of Contador I am a SKY fan? Please stop assigning attributes to me, thank you. I was responding to Flo:s comment.

Hats off to @albertocontador. Love this kind of racing.
Wasn't it Geschke that Berto beat on Muro di Guardigrele?
Yes, 6 seconds/
Yep, think he praised him back then too.
I love it when riders praise riders from other teams. In e3 this year, Visconti had similar praise for Fabian after his comeback in the race
