Contador makes every stage worth watching. I've been waiting for years to watch the sky train get shelved

The sky team at the vuelta isn't much of a train to be fair.

Very true, it is surprising because the route for the Vuelta seemed like it was built for the Sky Train, given all of the single climb stages.

Regardless, I am one happy boy right now

Quintana will win the stage, Contador will be left with nothing for his work
Obviously. Maybe he'll allow Contador some freedom on stage 17/20 though

Maybe in a parallel universe where steeper climbs produce bigger differences, which is definitely not what actually happens in the real world.
Eh??

Steeper climbs do not produce bigger differences, the difficulty of the climb being equal.

It's not the first time this has happened in a stage race. Although a first in GTs as far as I can remember (not including 2013 Giro).
The stage Martin won in the 2013 Tour is the closest, the day after Ax-3-Domaines when Richie had a bizarre off-day, then was back to destroying the bunch for Froome afterward. However, Froome got into the front bunch and Movistar didn't seem to have a plan B for not ditching Froome once Valverde rode across the gap, and they didn't manage to profit.

I think that it was a good thing that Quintana managed to get in the break in Contador point of view because Sky train got derailed and Movistar won't work now. If Movistar would work the break would have no chance. It was going to be hard for Contador to beat Quintana and Froome but now he is in a good position to beat one of them.

Yeah that was, or when Froome was caught in the crosswinds in 2013, except he has his team that time. Tirreno 2013 and Dauphine 2014 are the best previous examples that I can think of. Obviously not close to this extent though.

Of course, this break depends on Quintana and Formolo. If Formolo is dropped then Cannondale with their 5 men start working.
