People complaining about Astana ... what are they supposed to do ? Their entire team is in the 2nd group.

As their DS would you say "Hang tight boys, lets race for 30th?"

I get people are frustrated but ofc they will ride here, as someone else said there is literally nothing else for them to do.

That was me. What I said is that there is literally no reason to chase.
They're burning matches and weakening themselves for zero gain.

Protecting GC? Racing for the stage?

I think it is in their interests to chase. I think if you were their DS you'd get them to ride. They have 9 riders, many are domestiques that are paid to do this kind of thing. No point not using them.

Burning several good riders who could be resting to win stages later on, to chase down a guy who is going to get dropped in later stages and lose the time he gained today?

Moronic.

Thats what Cannondale are doing BTW. And Talansky has a better shot at a top-5 than Scarponi.

Well Cannondale have a lot of team in the front group and are going for the stage win. So it's very different to Astana.

This is why we can't have nice things. The small mentality that makes teams ride to defend a **** 9th place. Pathetic really.

Tbf, if Astana didn't decide to pull, this race would already be decided.

Indeed, Astana are actually keeping the race going. If they don't ride Quintana wins by 6 minutes and we can all go home. :surprised:
Go home happy :) I agree about Astana, though, I just hope their mission will fail

Cannondale has Formolo up the road. And he could be in the top5 by the end of the stage.

Orica are the real idiots here. They actually have a great shot at a podium which would be great for them. Are they really thinking Froome are going to pull them? :/

Sucks for Froome but he can easily be second anyway. Chaves/Yates are *** if they let Contador gain 2 minutes.

Apart from Konig, is there any other top10 not in the first two groups?

Do you know Konig gap atm?

If he's in the 3rd group he's over 5 mins back.

Guys I don't know about you, but what a disgusting loser Contador is turning out to be. At this point, he is doing nothing more than making Quintana win this Vuelta. Quintana barely works, like the wheelsucker he is.

Alberto and Tinkoff should stop working NOW!

That way Movistar and Quintana are forced to work at 100%, otherwise Froome comes back, and Alberto can try and take time on Quintana on the last climb.

As things are now, Alberto is looking like an ignorant fool, and some of the usual haters that only want to see Froome lose at all costs can't see it.

To be fair it does look like Contador is domming for Quintana as he takes long pulls and Quintana sits in.

Weird that people think Astana is protecting their gc spot. They simply like Sky/Froome more than Movistar/Quintana, that's it.

Same reason why Contador is riding so hard. He doesn't like Sky. Obviously he would never ride like this if Froome was in his group and Quintana was behind.

So 2 movistar leading the break, and Nairo just took a pull. I am an Alberto fan, but come on bruh

He wants podium. People who say "Contador only cares about winning" have no clue. If he indeed saw a second place as a 10:th or 14:th he would force Nairo to the Front, but he is not. Because he cares about second/third.
