Dowsett 57:27.10

Wait, what!? Is that Cummings as in Steve Cummings, who broke his clavicle, scapula, sternum and hip about two months ago? How is that even possible? I thought that would be it basically for his pro career.

I wonder whats up with Dunbar? Thats pretty pure, but then again I don't know the route

He crashed and got a concussion in the first stage of the Baby Giro, so probably still recovering from that

Ian Richardson - DQ (Shortening the course)

He went the wrong way round one of the roundabouts apparently, would have saved him less than a second if anything, but sadly he's paid the harshest price.

That's an amazing recovery. I guess he must have been able to get back on the trainer pretty quickly, but still. To beat a pretty good TTer Dowsett is just incredible so soon after those injuries.
He would have been back much earlier but had a fall at home a couple of weeks after the big crash which meant further surgery

I was surprised Dunbar was riding the nationals at all after his BabyGiro crash. Obviously 3rd in the Irish U23s for a guy who was top ten in the world U23s last year is bad, but in the circumstances it's positive.

Mullen posted a photo of his big numbers to twitter. Roche finishing 15 seconds behind is a very good performance, Last year's 3rd was an unexpected blip in Mullen's probable reign until retirement (he changed his seat height after that screw up and then came 5th in the worlds).

Cummings is an amazing freak.

Danish TT (39.5 km):
1 Martin Toft Madsen - BHS-Almeborg-Bornholm 00:46:08.14
2 Kasper Asgreen - Team VéloCONCEPT 00:46:21.44
3 Mikkel Bjerg - Team Giant - Castellli 00:47:16.54
Is it strange that I haven't heard of any of those guys?

I hope not as I haven't either. Danish posters: are these guys really good or were the high level Danish pros absent or out of form?

Martin Toft Madsen has specifically been training towards this goal, and he's the reigning champion, thus was he the big favorite yesterday. The same could be said for Asgreen, who was an outsider. Actually the TT has almost always been a big goal for the domestic scene, and its not like Denmark has great time trialists (bar Würtz Schmidt), and it seems like the pro riders is tired. Mikkel Bjerg is one of Denmarks biggest talents, so look out for him in the future.

Little bit of both I believe.

Martin Toft Madsen won the national Championships last year as well. He is a Danish continental rider and a late bloomer in the true sense of the word. He was known to be a great time trialist in the Danish scene but when he beat all the pros at the NC last year it was a huge surprise. The victory seemed to give him a lot of confidence and go to a new level as he was 3rd in Chrono des Nations after world class tt'ists Kiriyenka and Castroviejo, beating Mullen in 4th by 30 seconds. He was also 13th in the WC in between Dowsett and Bialoblocki.

Kasper Asgreen is 22 years old and was 3rd last year as well as 5th at the u23 WC, so he is a very good time trialist as well and he has been strong most of this year.

Mikkel Bjerg is the biggest surprise. He is from 1998 and is in his first year out of junior riding. He was 2nd at the WC itt u19 last year and is a very talented time trialist but it has been a surprise how well he has done already this year.

That being said, the Danish pros don't seem really intetrsted in the tt this year. Quaade, who is imo clearly the best tt'er amongst the Danish riders, seems to have lost his interest in the tt the past few years. Würtz Schmidt and Lasse Norman also dont seem to have the tt as their main priority this year.

Some posters have already given good answers to this, so let me just add that Martin Toft Madsen rode 52.144 km at an Hour event at the Ballerup Arena track during a Six-days race earlier this year. This somehow went under the radar but was better that the world records set by Voigt and Brändle, and also better than the World record attempts by Bobridge and Gustav Larsson. His 52.144 km ride is listed as an hour world record attempt on Wiki, but it was officially nothing but an attempt to set new Danish record.

Quaade didn't do as well as I thought he would

Apparently it wasn't because of his crash. He had a mechanical 3 km in and ended up riding the whole thing on a road bike.
