Castro wins in Spain. Landa 2nd  , ahead of Herrada, Soler, Izagirre!
In some Giro stage thread back in May I was trying to argue that Landa is not a bad TTist after he went to Sky, but it fell on deaf ears, I think. His Giro TT last year was excellent, and he was among the best of the GC guys. He lost 22 second to Dumoulin, 7 to Nibali, and beat everyone else. I'm not surprised by this.

It seems I was wrong:

Nelson Oliveira, unable to even take the start in Santa Maria da Feira (Portugal) as a change in the start times - not conveniently notified to him - prevented the man from Aveiro to compete for a fourth win in the event.
(from movistar's website)

So, after screwing Daniela Reis, the portuguese federation decided to screw Nelson. Let's see what they'll do to José Mendes on sunday...

Izagirre has really regressed as a time trialist after moving to Bahrain... wouldn't be surpised to see Quintana beating him in Dusseldorf.
Maybe he's lost a little bit in the time trials, but it also seems like he's become better in the mountains compared to previous years. He needs to make those adjustments given that the Tour, which will be decided in the mountains, is his main focus. In any case, a really poor performance in the spanish nationals - more than 3 minutes behind Castoviejo is not normal. But strange things often happen at the nationals

Simple explanation: bikes. Year in, year out we see riders either improving or declining drastically with just a transfer. Just look at Jumbo or FDJ for that matter.

Great performance by Moscon and Felline, pretty bad by Ganna, over 4min behind, but as far as a know he really suffers in the heat and his power output just drops a lot.
Monster performance by Sütterlin, only 15seconds behind Tony Martin who rode an 48km long ITT at over 53km/h.

Something strange about this...

:p

I'm guessing (but only guessing) that they are not UCI registered, and therefore have no official cycling nationality, but if they were to have one, they would be eligible for Ireland. On what grounds PCS allocate them a nationality is anyone's guess (and they have now changed Alexis Roche to Irish).

Lambert seems to be trying his luck though, having been in the Aussie U23 championships in January and the Oceania championship in 2015 and 2016. If it is the same guy: PCS now have 2 Connor Lamberts (rider ids 210791 and 193924).

Does anybody knows what is going on with Adrien Costa?

He was supposed to race on US ITT but isn't anymore
And he hasn't race since february

Last I know a few weeks ago there was some controversy because he was supposed to race the Tour de Bretagne and instead he went off to the PanAm games....but I'm not sure he ever started those either

Haven't heard anything since. He missed the Girobio too.

A lot of people have been wondering but there's no news afaik.

what was the Spanish TT course like?

The hill at the end probably helped Landa a bit.
