What about Kwiat? This is a race which suits him very well (after all he has already won it) and he had a good shape in Algarve.
One of the favourites for sure. It probably goes like Sagan, GVA, Kwito/Stybar at the bookmakers.

Will a move to the WT kill off what has become one of the best races in the calendar? Hopefully not.

I think Sagan will struggle. He's going to be forced to work by anyone he is in a break with and the finale in Siena is usually just too much for him at the end. Valverde has been looking very good at the start of the season. I'd like to see someone new on the top step as always (Barguil?! :) ) but I think Valv is the top pick at the moment (if he's riding?).

well, it's true that he'd better find a moment, when kwiat and stybar don't pay attention and finish it alone. This year, there will be no cancellara that could pull Stybar back to Sagan, so if he get's a margin, he might not be brought back. Last 3 years, Sagan animated the race. First year, only kwiat able to follow, next year he made the decisive attack happen and then got cramps, last year he again initiated the wining move and only cancellaras skills with stybar on his wheel got to him.
Yes, all the big guns will probably be better last hill to siena if going from a break, bu as GVA was nearly dropped(by his words) in Eikenberg, he probably doesn't have the abbility to keep up with sagan in the sterrato section. Valverde probably doesn't too. Stybar can, but if he is not glued to sagans rear wheel, he will need somebody else to catch sagan for him. Kwiat is probably the only one that can react a little bit later to the inevitable sagans attack. Interesting pick could also be Feline.
For sagan though, the attack must be timed perfectly, so he would be able to finish it alone, because from far out, he would need some companion, who would probably top him in the end. And there. If somebody is left ahead, like Brambilla last year, then sagan might be screwed. Quickstep, Trek and Lotto should definitely send some white horse(somebody who can top on the ascent to sienna), but not top guns in front from like 50-60 kms, maybe on Monte Sante Marie section. Sagan will probably be quite isolated by then and to catch the escapes, he will have to attack with somebody else, who could profit from his burnt engine.

Don't think Valverde is riding.
If it rains, would be interesting to see how Wellens goes.
This is one of his goals for the season.

That's the weak point of the calendar for this race: Paris-Nice starts the day after.

Do you know if Nibali has said he wants to do well?

Nibali looks in decent form but hardly as good as he would need to stay with the best in such a race.
Sky and Trek have a couple outsiders to use, I'm expecting big things from these teams. Sagan is probably the favorite, considering his shape and experience.

Weather is normally very unpredictable in March over here. Too early to call.

Interesting thing is that Strade wasn't supposed to be in his program but rather GP Larciano which is on Sunday. In terms of preparation for Giro, Larciano route looks more fitting so it's anyone's guess why he chose Strade. Maybe he'll do both, maybe he feels he can do something on Saturday we don't know yet but he is the team leader.

Can't do much about it. Slots in the Spring are pretty much full and don't think moving it to Autumn would be a good idea.

Only option is to shorten PN to six stages and start it on Tuesday.

Otoh, for those riders riding T-A riding S B makes perfect sense.

Exactly. Its a RCS-race and its obviously in their best interest to make the riders choose T-A over P-N, you can argue Strade Bianche is perfect for that. Then again, there really isn't anywhere else to put it, but T-A will clearly have the upper hand in terms of attracting the classic stars.

Bit a long shot because the start list is far from complete, but here we go:

***** Stybar
**** Sagan, Kwiatkowski
*** Valverde, GVA, Felline
** Wellens, Benoot, Gatto, Brambilla
* Vanmarcke, Rosa, Urán, ??

Probably missing some I don't know about if they're riding.

I don't think the German television will ever show any cycling race except the tour de france. I'm thankful that there is at least eurosport.
