Contador bike change at 61km to go...........
Freaking ridiculous.
So many bike changes, its got to trigger a question from UCI one would think...UCI??

How is Landa doing so well with Giro legs?? That baffles me because in the mountains in the Giro he was on almost every break trying to win a stage and did win a stage. Now he is riding away on the mountains as if he did not do anything at the Giro. Next we will see him at the Vuelta riding away in the mountians...baffling

New generation!!! Faster than the old generation!!!!!
Laughable. Apparently you'll fly harder than Saunier Duval's machines after breaking a few bones a few months prior to the Tour.

Not only him but 11(!) riders climbed faster than Ricco on the last mountain day. I get that Tour was weak on climbs so they might be bit fresher compared to a normal 3rd week, but somehow all of them climb at full *** speeds.

commentator was talking of a strong tailwind....................

+ unusual that it's the final climb........................with lots of riders together both on
the road and on GC to encourage...

Mark L

Ah yes the new generation has a tailwind. I forgot that!

But they also have PEDs and motors........ :D

edit: First time for Izoard as MTF today. It was totally expected for the climbing record to fall. But by 2 minutes?! That's amazingly fast

So 5.3W/kg for 25 minutes is evidence of doping? I don't think the tour is clean but come on.

Also worth noting that there has never been a MTF on the Izoard before.

If this generation of riders are faster than previous known dopers it points to not clean.

Just because they dont hit 6.4w/kg or more is not evidence of clean.

Aldo Sassi claimed that 6.ow/kg was possible clean? How would he know? he never produced the evidence to prove that was possible clean.

The sport doesn't want to prove it is clean. It just ignores the question. It has always ignored it until it couldn't, when the police got involved. Then it pretended to change, but nothing changed. It will probably be ever thus as those in the sport believe that is the way and the only way.

Some impressive list of dopers.

I'm not arguing that anyone's clean. Just that the time is obviously going to be faster than the usual Izoard ascents because it's unique as a MTF. It's akin to comparing TT times up the Alpe or Ventuox to the road stages. Not quite as marked a difference, but completely different tactics and efforts.

Le Tour is raced and since EPO raced hard. Today's time was 2 minutes faster, 2 MINUTES FASTER. That is impressive!

I know it was the last climb, of the day and the 1st time a MTF, but still.

You can't simply compare two times and use that as definitive proof that the tour is/isn't clean. I don't know what the clean threshold is, but it's certainly higher than that. The post says that the peloton had 40 riders in it. That means the hammer wasn't down. I think they probably could have ridden this climb 2-3 minutes faster if it was at the end of the stage. Context matters.

The Tour is dirty so let's get that out of the way.

As for today's times up the final climb, I heard several mentions of a tailwind which could have affected the final times.

If the peloton was clean the times would be much, much slower (as in, 10-15% slower up the final climb).

The grimace was when Froome requested him to wait, so end of the dream to win that stage.

Today was the first-ever stage finish in Tour history on this particular climb.

It is understandable therefore that it could well post the fastest time due to the charge for the line.

In previous editions there was probably another huge climb to come that the riders were saving themselves for.

A clean threshold? If there is one, why is it not well known.

As for today's climb, whether he climbed it in the end or the beginning, yes context is important, but that doesn't mean because it was never at the end of a race riders were not giving it there all to get away from a peloton or catch a break. It is still a very fast time beating some serious known dopers, to dismiss it is stupid. I never said it was proof, i merely added it to the 2017 discussion.

The stage wasn't particularly long either (178kms) and there was only a cat.1 40 km before the last climb.
Also, a lot of people beated the record today, it's not like someone won 2 min faster than all others.

Think he was smiling at the thought of the bonu$ for dragging Froome up so many climbs and not riding away from him.
