That was a bit of a dull sprint in the end. Was it Boonen the quick step rider who was sprinting against Gaviria?
No, Boonen crossed the line a few minutes later.

Good sprint by Gaviria, great acceleration, top speed not super impressive IMO, but a win is a win. Timing will be key for him in the future.

Trentin. He also pulled the group back to Sagan-Gaviria while Terpstra was on the front. Good rider but not sure he got his tactics right on the last couple of races.

Anyway good win by Gaviria, good sprint by Sagan too coming off of yesterday.

"First World Tour victory of the season for @FndoGaviria came after a beautifully executed plan of the team" -QS (twitter)

See, that's just overselling it. They must've missed that last 10km when things devolved into shooting spitballs at the ceiling and hoping they stuck. Either that or that's a heavy grading curve they're giving themselves.

Good win for Gaviria. However, i doubt he can follow Sagan when he unleashes himself on Poggio.

With Bennett behind, I think that he might go all out on Poggio compared to last years, but we will see that in a week.

Since Alaphilippe is set to ride MSR I think he will be the one to follow those kind of attacks.

I have a feeling or a dream :D of monster attack with Kwiatko on Poggio. I prefer him losing against Kwaitko after all in attack then losing in a bunch sprint.
Last year he could not afford to join him when he attacked as he was still monumentless. This year it is different story. He has nothing to lose here.

Good point. Etixx will field a stupidly strong team. Who do you say the 8 are?

Except those two I think Trentin, Boonen and Richeze are a given. But other than that it's pretty open. They have a lot of potential riders they could take. Makes it harder to choose.

Keisse probably as well, he always does his job to a T. Other than that I suppose Alaphilippe for an attack on the Poggio and Terpstra to help close a gap in the final or perhaps a late attack? Stybar will also be there without a doubt.

I think the MSR winner will come from Paris-Nice like usual. The sprinters there are going to have amazing racing sharpness after eight days of battling echelons, long range attacks, breakaways. Not sure Tirreno is going to be as good, plus it offers a few days less recovery.

Hopefully one of Colbrelli, Degenkolb, Matthews, Greipel, Swift or Groenewegen - the guys who actually rode the last two stages and repected the race - instead of throwing in the towel (*cough* Kristoff, Demare, Bouhanni, Kittel).

Locks: Stybar, Boonen, Gaviria, Alaphillipe.
Always there: Vermote, Trentin
Best guess: Keisse (or Jungels), Richeze (or Sabatini)

One of the Ardennes trio (Vakoc, Martin, PhilGil) might take Trentin's place. Otherwise today was a trial baloon tactically. Sub in Ala for Terpstra and Stybar for Trentin. Everyone else working for Gaviria unless Boonen calls an audible.

Someone from Tirreno to win MSR is my guess.

The past 20 years or so only 5 times the winner came from PN.
