With Sagan they'd probably have caught him but I don't think that should take anything away from Gilberts win since I'm pretty confident he was the strongest rider on the day. He was riding on the front of the peolton at 100km to go protecting Boonen which already caused a page of replies on this thread He then did some big turns for 40km in a group before a 60km solo attack ... so yea

Only active rider to have three different monuments, only the second Walloon winner in Flanders ever (Criquelion the other). Wow.

Also LOL at Sagan crashing out because he tried to ride in the gully. Them's the breaks karma offers.

So, the fair outcome would be for 95% of the field to crash out? Right?

Or surely a huge LOL was in order would it have happened.

congrats to Gilbert for his fist cobble monument - a 50k gamble that paid off greatly. and congrats to GVA for that 2nd place despite the crash.
