Sure, Sagan got it spot on and it's a great win for him. Personally I think it's a shame that the podium for the biggest race in cycling has been made up for three years in a row now, by guys who were virtually unseen the entire race until the last 3km. This should be cycling's showpiece event - but it's been way more tedious than most monuments for four years now because of crap courses.ihosama said:Doha was had no hills. But otherwise yeah, the WCRR last few years was "classic" style race.DFA123 said:It's also what you get when the WC are designed for sprinters who can climb a bit for three years in a row. ...
But Belgians, et all doing all of nothing today had something to do with it. Sagan won of luck today, he had one card and played that card well. But that Ala will be caught was anything but certain.
He needs more miles and experience in his legs.Ruby United said:movingtarget said:Bye Bye Bicycle said:So at least the Gaviria hype train derailed today.
Much harder than a Giro flat stage.
Didn't help that for some weird reason he tried an attack earlier.
A sprinter does not a wheelsucker make. By definition. Nough said.portugal11 said:Please, don't compare a attacker like sagan with wheelsuckers like kristoff or matthews.

GraftPunk said:The Sagan hate is hilarious... He's one of the most attacking, exciting riders all year, but by all means keep complaining that he doesn't deserve it.
We should praise him for doing this.RedheadDane said:Cort... Cort... Cort... what were you doing?
He probably wouldn't have won if he'd waited for the sprint, he might not even have gotten a medal, but a top-10?
Gerrans v2?trucido said:GraftPunk said:The Sagan hate is hilarious... He's one of the most attacking, exciting riders all year, but by all means keep complaining that he doesn't deserve it.
He's gone from dumb aggressive rider who wastes all his energy too early to Gerrans v2 literally overnight.
The bigger problem than the not so hard climb is the huge distance from the climb to the finish. As i have said from the beginning.Escarabajo said:It was a very fast race and the climb wasn't hard enough.
no we should'nt, he shat on his teamates, if we should have attacked, we should have ridden for kragh or valgrenPopchu said:We should praise him for doing this.RedheadDane said:Cort... Cort... Cort... what were you doing?

Surely no-one is saying that Sagan is an undeserving winner. Just that it would have been a lot more fun to see him win the jersey on a more selective course - like RVV or Strade Bianche - than in a bunch sprint for the second year in a row.GraftPunk said:The Sagan hate is hilarious... No, it's wheelsucking either way.

Partly yes. At least for some people on the forum. (Looking at you LS)Escarabajo said:I usually cheer for the Colombian riders, but you have to appreciate what Sagan did here. I don't understand the hate towards him. Is it related with something else other than cycling?

No, it's wheelsucking either way.
Its also good tactics either way. The people saying how great Sagan was today would be spitting feathers if it was Gerrans who won today.
