Seems that Sagan suffered from the Tour much longer than expected.

It's nothing to do with the Tour.
Short climbs above threshold require a very different skillset to long climbs at threshold
Don't you think that if he wasn't injured, could train and compete properly he could hold today's tempo for a longer time?
It was obvious at Vuelta he's off the form... if not already at EC.

You're right but the end result would've been the same here either way.

No

Better climbers than him got dropped earlier. He did very well, but the race is down to a small group and he can't hang on to it on long threshold climbs.

I guess we'll never know.

Who were the Austrians riding for?
Konrad...

Edit: Realistically however the main reason why they were so present at the front is that it's their home race.

Sounds like there is already a bit happening. I am waiting another half an hour before coverage starts on Australian screens.

Oh my god, I love your avatar
Thx Flo :).
Attacks from peleton started and gap to break stabilized around 7:45, break might not win, but i think they will play a significant role in the race.

Penultimate lap underway, time to put the real hurt.
Actually there are still 3 laps to go and one of those is harder than the other ones.

The big gap to the break is really horrible for the race. Nobody can move early as everyone knows you can't close a 7 minute gap without a big peloton. There won't be anything happening before the final lap.
