What the hell are they doing showing that Virtual Race nonsense at times?

I think they're showing the virtual ride (from Thursday) of the real-life rider on the screen, so maybe a "race against themselves".
Ha!
There you are.
I was wondering...

So, now I wonder… is that Dimension Data guy beating himself, or is he being beaten by himself?

I think Yates can be close but beating Roglic? Very hard, he was flying.

Weather still holding, but beware: it's very crazy these days. I'm currently 100 km north of Bologna and it was raining WITH the sun shining a few minutes ago.

Hmmm... Good point.
I guess it depends how far he's willing to go in order to win.
... Turn himself inside out...

Except for Roglic... it is pretty close between the others. Excluding Landa and Zakarin. There was always gonna be a couple of the favorites dropping a lot of time I guess. It was just a question of who, before the race.

I still dont think the time gaps determines who will be the winner in the end, even though getting an edge over your rivals and a confidence boost going forward should not be underestimated. If you have a bad day later, today does not matter all though.

Dumoulin said he felt good and the watts were fine. So everyone else was better
Sounds like he might have underestimated what kind of watts are 'fine' for such a short TT. I guess that's the danger of relying too much on power meters and not just riding as hard as you can.

I do not see Yates threatening Roglic in any way. His target should be Nibali’s posted time.
I think Yates could come close to Roglic, as long as the weather doesn't change. I'd expect him to smash the time of the likes of Lopez and Majka, which could put him sub 13 mins.
