There are, by my count, 36 reigning national road race Champions and 40 reigning national time trial Champions riding in the professional peloton across all three UCI levels (WorldTour, Professional Continental, and Continental). In 7 instances, one man holds both Championships from his homeland.

Here's a question (don't Google! it's trivia!): what Belgian team boasts three national road race Champions on their 2019 roster?

I know Quickstep has a couple of National Champions on their team. However that is both RR and TT champions. I don't remember how many of each they have.

That's a sneaky one ;) I had to do some research to find the answer.

Heh. You gave me away! No, the answer isn't immediately obvious. If nobody posts the correct team name (without researching it!) by the time I go to bed tonight, I'll give the details.

Either I'm forgetting someone at Deceuninck or the reason nobody's getting it is that you've worded it poorly.

I think it's the latter. You specified it's "Three champions", which is making everyone think "Clearly he means three different guys so it can't be Mr. Lazy with his three titles" :)

EDIT: I gave up and googled. There is no team with 3, you have to mean him.
Yeah, it's a bit shocking he's still riding, but he must need the cash. It's clear from interviews with both him and coaches that he stopped caring or putting in any effort almost an entire decade ago. Yet somehow he still gets contracts. There's an interview from a full decade back, immediately after his last good result but before anyone knew he was "done" where they ask about his training and he says he's only doing TT training because he can't be bothered to ride more than an hour a day anymore.

If anyone knows anything else about his decline I'd love to hear about it

As a sidenote, his 2018 team website lists his weight as 10kg higher than the quickstep site did a decade ago. Yikes!
Belgian Bananito?

There is most definitely a Belgian team with exactly three different current national road race champions.

I stand by my question and by my wording. But, sure, to clarify, as my question I think clearly implies, there definitely is a Belgian-registered professional road cycling team which features three reigning national road race Champions on their 2019 roster.

Ooooooooh

I read it as what team boasts 3 belgian road champions. Sorry :)

I have no idea, then. I can only think of teams with 1 or 4.

There's also another Belgian team whose riders defend exactly three national championships.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't research properly. They have four (I at least hope they don't have more).

Now I have also found the answer to christopherrowe's question. To call it trivia with no need for Google/PCS might be a bit of a stretch...

Errr… I'm pretty sure Deceuninck Quickstep has four current national road racing champions...
Viviani, Lampaert, Jungels, and Mørkøv.

Isn't Jungels also an ITT champ as well?

I know they have a bunch of champions on their team, just couldn't remember how many RR and how many TT champs they have, but it's definitely several.

Exactly. Can't be them, and I can't think of any other team with more than 1. At least not "Road Race" champions, as he specified. Besides, he also said it's not an obvious team and they're literally the most obvious team you'd think of, being the top belgian team.

I'm intrigued to find out who it is, definitely.

He didn't specify it had to be professional titles. Could that be the clue I'm missing?

Of those four I mentioned?
I didn't take into consideration that some of them - and of course it would be Jungels, he doesn't seem to want to share Luxembourgish national honours with anyone - might be TT champions as well.

You know what, that's fair. Though there might be something idiomatic going on here, too. I, at least, don't think that just because something is described as "trivia" (obscure knowledge) that presupposes that knowing the information off the top of your head would be trivial. If that makes any sense.

And for what it's worth, I can name all the national road and time trial champions riding for USA-registered teams (I think). I was thinking given the international nature of the crowd that frequents these boards, some similarly obsessive Belgian fan might have the answer at hand. Of course, there are only seven national champions riding for USA-registered teams. I hesitate to guess how many are riding for Belgian-registered teams in total!

That excludes about 3 riders, then

Is Thi That Nguyen Vietnam champion? I have no clue

Nice one. I wonder if the team signed them just for that reason...

If this was a question to my "you being amused" comment: No, one of the three champions who ride for the Belgian team christopherrowe wants us to guess, has quite a peculiar name that you weren't ready to allow once.

I also went in that direction initially but I don't think so. And if she is, I still think they only have two.

Oh, hey, I just noticed you're in Denmark! By coincidence, I received a cycling-related package from Denmark just today! It's my new "changing diabetes" cycling cap from Team Novo Nordisk.

Oh. I know who he means now. Sweet Jesus that's obscure. And yes the pun is intentional.
