There are, by my count, 36 reigning national road race Champions and 40 reigning national time trial Champions riding in the professional peloton across all three UCI levels (WorldTour, Professional Continental, and Continental). In 7 instances, one man holds both Championships from his homeland.
Here's a question (don't Google! it's trivia!): what Belgian team boasts three national road race Champions on their 2019 roster?
Either I'm forgetting someone at Deceuninck or the reason nobody's getting it is that you've worded it poorly.
I think it's the latter. You specified it's "Three champions", which is making everyone think "Clearly he means three different guys so it can't be Mr. Lazy with his three titles"
EDIT: I gave up and googled. There is no team with 3, you have to mean him.
Yeah, it's a bit shocking he's still riding, but he must need the cash. It's clear from interviews with both him and coaches that he stopped caring or putting in any effort almost an entire decade ago. Yet somehow he still gets contracts. There's an interview from a full decade back, immediately after his last good result but before anyone knew he was "done" where they ask about his training and he says he's only doing TT training because he can't be bothered to ride more than an hour a day anymore.
If anyone knows anything else about his decline I'd love to hear about it
As a sidenote, his 2018 team website lists his weight as 10kg higher than the quickstep site did a decade ago. Yikes!
Belgian Bananito?
