In Ireland, Mullen won again. Dunbar second. A domestic amateur, Craig McAuley, put in a great ride to get third. No times available yet. I’ve no idea who gets the U23 prize. The rules are a bit weird (one year Mullen put in the fastest time but was only given the U23 win ). I would guess that Dunbar wasn’t entered into the U23 competition despite being eligible.

Given that there were only 2 pros in the race, it was no surprise that the bronze medal went to an amateur, although McAuley was beaten by both Wiggins-Le Col riders and one other amateur (Luke Smith) in the U23 category.

The results can look weird, but I think the principle of the rules is clear enough: you can't win the seniors title if you don't enter that event. This happens not infrequently in national championships in many countries.

Strangely, CQ (but not PCS or, most relevantly, Cycling Ireland) compounded the results of the Irish senior and U23 races last year, but haven't done so (yet) this year.

(Would Dunbar have been eligible for the U23s? He is 22 at the moment, but turns 23 before the end of the year.)

Route was 50km and winning time was 59:36. So slightly above 50km\h.

I'm an idiot. Sorry. :D

PCS has the wrong average speed.

No, average speed is generated automatically. They have the wrong distance set for this race (40k instead of 50k). Which in turn also messes up the average speed.

I have sent them a report. You can do the same (under the "more" link) in case it takes too long :)
They have corrected it. The average speed is now correct.

It's worth noting that the man who came 6th today in the German ITT, only 1:27 behind Tony Martin is a full time lightweight rower (who has won gold in his last two lightweight double events and looks on track to medal at the world championships at his current trajectory).

He's stated his intention to turn to cycling after the 2020 olympiad and is certainly a name to watch for anyone interested. It is true rowing and cycling physiology has it's similarities but I think this a rather remarkable result given the fact he's probably only putting spare time into cycling and achieving quite excellent results in both disciplines.

I think it will be fascinating to see what kind of results he can produce should he commit to cycling full time.

Interesting, but would it have killed you to mention his name?

Jason Osborne for those interested.

You use your lower body more than your upper body when you row (at least the general you, I can't speak for you specifically).

It’s all a bit confusing in Ireland. Dunbar seems to have attacked almost from the gun and is in a lead group of three wth Sam Bennett and Mark Dowling. Then the race got stopped because of an unexplained “incident”. It seem that the race is now underway again

It seems there was a collision between a rider and a car. The race was stopped for an hour. It’s now on again, but has been reduced by a lap. Bennett, Dunbar, Dowling have 1:30. Obviously the other two can’t take Bennett to the line if they are going to win.

I... may have been hoping Herrada would win for this reason.

We're talking the Irish now, right?

Dideriksen repeats in Denmark. Ahead of Mathiesen and Siggaard.

Yes, this is Ireland. I was slow posting that update, so a couple of other posts arrived in between my two.
