Hmm.

I didnt pick a sprinter since I thought they would probably be beating each other a lot and they were all somewhat expensive. I would probably pick the wrong one anyway, lol. I also opted out of picking Aru and Porte even though I could have fitted them in with Bernal, Landa and Uran who are on my team. We will see if that was a mistake or not. I thought I would have more fun following and cheering for riders like Barguil, Gesbert and Gougeard who I picked instead. Hoping they will go in breaks and for stage wins. The last two riders on my team are just the two cheapest riders you could have. Not expecting anything there but who knows.

That's why I went with the less expensive Ewan and Cobrelli for sprinters. Funny enough I had Porte on my team originally and then decided I just didn't trust him to stay on his bike or the Trek team.

I agree on the sprinters. it was just too hard to spend that kind of money. We just have to hope we can catch up in the mountains.

My GC rider is Mas. So happy with today's result. Hoping for some of my boys to get into the breaks and get some good results that way.

Stage 2 Team Time Trial

(I had to re-jig the spreadsheet: suddenly realised why I had columns for the early stages before the totals columns, which I had previously "corrected", thinking it was a rationalisation.)

Stage points today were relatively unimportant, no rider got more than 20 of them (although Teunissen gets another 20 for the yellow jersey). Far more significant were the changes in projected position: Van Aert was 16th yesterday, with 94 points projected for that position, now he is 2nd, and if he stays there, will have 450 GC placing points. So he is the biggest improvement of the day.
However, none of us expect Van Aert to hang on to that podium spot, so he will at some time get negative points: that has already happened for some, most obviously Peter Sagan. He has dropped from 2nd to 48th, so his projected GC points are now 23, not 450.

I won't list every rider's point fluctuations every day: I'll choose a cut off depending on how dramatic the stage has been, and I will only show those who have been selected by at least one of our managers.

Daily Scores
Anyone who had a decent day yesterday courtesy of Ewan or Sagan saw most of those points evaporate today, even if many of us had that mitigated somewhat by the rise of a member of one of the higher placed teams (most commonly Bernal). That still left a lot of us in negative territory.

Very close for the honours on the day:

1 Laarsland 626 (Kruijswijk, Bernal and Zabel, but Debusschere and Garcia lost points) (80 Green points)

Green points
You'll have noticed that the top ten each day have a bracketed number, these are their points towards our minor classification, the green points jersey. These get totalled every day. No-one who scored yesterday in this was in today's top ten (the Sagan/Colbrelli/Ewan correction factor), so when the scores for the two days are totalled, we have a lot of drawn placings.

Standings
At least no-one's score is totally dependent on 20 per rider for being outside the top 50 any more. Don't expect these to be much more of a prediction of the final outcome than the current GC rankings are.
There again, Archie won the Giro game, and there he is again, on the back of a 20 place jump. Even that is outdone by Carlo and Search (24 and 28 places respectively)

I am out tomorrow evening: the update will be late.

PS I see there has been a late adjustment on the results, with Sunweb now being given 4th and Katusha 5th. It only makes a difference of 3 pts give or take for 9 riders, three of whom aren't selected and none of whom are very popular. I will hope that any differences it would have made to the Daily points would not be relevant to the final Green Jersey classification, rather than re-calculate everything. Similarly, I note that Julien Simon was 16th in the results table I used for the stage one calculations, but now he is shown as 29th in yesterday's results: that correction was incorporated in his drop of points today. These things will hopefully all be resolved by Paris.

However, given how close the top of the daily table was, it turns out that the three extra points given to Rick Zabel were quite significant. Once those are taken away, Search pips Laarsland to the day's win (by just 1 point), and a 30 point switcharound in the Green points is significant. Vladimir has 2 of the Sunweb riders (Kamna and Kelderman), and so catches up with Josedin, so they get 4 green points each.

Stage 3 Champagne version of the Ardennes

Those who can't cope with a series of short sharp hills fall away, and those who can move up the GC to replace them. We need to wait until stage 6 removes those who can't deal with longer climbs before the table takes on a really meaningful shape.

Green points

Yellow Knight and Just Some Guy come from no score to the top 10; LightBing has a 1st and a 3rd to secure top spot, and Koronin, Carlo and Bicycle Boy all have a second top ten placing in today's stage.

Tomorrow should see far less change in the GC, and the sprinters we have chosen, or left unchosen, will probably affect the green points more than the main event.

Now I'm just hoping that ASO don't nullify that 5 second gap between Bernal and Thomas and render all my numbers incorrect.

Re:

Kazistuta said:
I'm sorry for maybe being totally ignorant, but why isn't there a standing for the points gathered (guaranteed points) so far?

As in the Giro game, the "guaranteed points" has been replaced as the secondary classification by the "Green points" (daily position of your team). As I did for the Italian race, I would envisage putting it up in the rest day/end of race numbers.

Green points
Total Package already had a couple of points, so the day's win brings 2nd place. Shalgo and Comodoro get the top ten with their forst points: 6 teams are still waiting for theirs. At this stage it is odd to score, and yet drop in the table, but Ratta Kuningas manages it.

Puncheurs have a huge influence on the scores at the moment: I suspect that will not be the case after tomorrow.

Stage 6 Planche des Belles Filles, and then a bit

A few stage points, but mainly GC gains by passing puncheurs as they, for the most part, drop dramatically.

Standings

Huge changes, including ne sall of more than 30 places. 5 of the top ten weren't in that group yesterday, and those new entries to the top ten have an average jump of more than 12 places. Del's is the biggest (19 place) move, but the most significant move is of our first-time player from PCM Daily, and new leader, Ripley, who has Geraint Thomas as a unique pick and therefore might, on today's evidence, take some shifting.

Peter Sagan's third place is enough to bring Bicycle Boy into the lead, while those in 3rd and 4th close the gap to the leaders. Otoxiep, Rote Laterne, Amis Velo and DJSprtsch are new entries in the top ten, with jumps of 6 to 9 places, but Total Package has gone up by 11: more volatility than I would have expected on such a neutral stage, and testament to how closely bunched most of us still are.

Thanks for the stage 6 update. But i didn't see Bernal in the list of top ten point getters. I'm pretty sure he was up there right?

Oh I see. It's points gained (including overall). I guess I'll never figure this out. Bilbao!

Bernal has been in the same position on GC since stage 3, so doesn't appear in the "how much has their score changed today" table, as his contribution to your points has been unchanged on 272 since then.
The top 15 scorers of projected (including guaranteed) points are:

CICCONE Giulio 740pts 0 teams
ALAPHILIPPE Julian 609 0
TEUNS Dylan 485 0
BENNETT George 340 0
THOMAS Geraint 330 1
SAGAN Peter 305 2
BERNAL GOMEZ Egan Arley 272 28
PINOT Thibaut 246 0
KRUIJSWIJK Steven 220 5
WOODS Michael 182 0
MEURISSE Xandro 173 0
TEUNISSEN Mike 172 0
URAN URAN Rigoberto 162 14
EWAN Caleb 155 16
VIVIANI Elia 155 0
and a few other decent scorers who were selected:
COLBRELLI Sonny 140 2
BUCHMANN Emanuel 133 1
MAS NICOLAU Enric 128 8
MATTHEWS Michael 120 1
GROENEWEGEN Dylan 118 1
YATES Adam 110 4
VAN AERT Wout 102 1
QUINTANA ROJAS Nairo Alexander 99 9
LANDA MEANA Mikel 89 7
TRENTIN Matteo 80 1

And among top teams, the big scorers are:
1 BicycleBoy 839 (Sagan, Bernal, Uran)
2 Ripley 837 (Thomas, Bernal)
3 Armchair_Cyclist 793 (Bernal, Uran, Ewan)
4 Shalgo 784 (Bernal, Uran, Ewan)
5 LosBrolin 773 (Bernal, Uran, Ewan)
6 Otoxiep87 761 (Bernal, Ewan, Mas)
6 Rote_Laterne 761 (Bernal, Uran, Ewan)
8 Googolplex 743 (Sagan, Bernal)
9 AmisVelo 729 (Bernal, Ewan, Quintana)
10 DJSprtsch 720 (Bernal, Uran, Quintana)

and everything is in the spreadsheet

This is Saturday's stage: CN forum was doing its far too frequent refusal to open when I tried to post it last night, and I had forgotten that it was owing this morning.

Stage 8 Hilly transfer to St Etienne

Apart from stage and KoM rankings, there were quite a few points for moving up as Teuns and Woods slipped down.

DE GENDT Thomas 125 points for Koronin
MATTHEWS Michael 63 folr LightBing
URAN URAN Rigoberto 40 14 teams
BUCHMANN Emanuel 30 for Josedin
KRUIJSWIJK Steven 30 5

...
EWAN Caleb -10 16
VAN AERT Wout -10 1
COLBRELLI Sonny -15 2
CHEREL Mikael -16 1
VAN GARDEREN Tejay -37 3

Three teams become the first to register a non-finisher (TJVG): they lose the 37 GC points he was in line for by virtue of the 36th place spot he held on GC, but retain the 2 points he got on stage 2.

Unfortunately one of my breakaway specialists I was counting on abandoned today.

Standings

Ripley moves back to the top, and with a much bigger margin than he had when he was there after stage 6. The six immediately behind him, and 2 more of the top ten (well, eleven, because there is a tie for 10th) were not in the top ten yesterday. Josedin's 20 place jump was the biggest since stage 3

Some number crunching tomorrow, with a focus on the riders who are contributing those points (or maybe failing to do so).

No,not the "new" way AC sets it up. That's what confused me as well, but the green points are awarded to the teams with the biggest projected points jump on the day. Not really a competition format that I understand, but never really went for anything else than the overall (which I dont do very well apparently:)

And even though I dont fully grasp the concept,I'm jusy happy AC keeps on doing these.

Didn't I get a few green jersey points with Ewan (3rd) and Colbrelli (7th)?

When everything is taken into account, your team was the 15th best on the day. There are green points only for the top ten (or those tied for that) each day.

The switch of emphasis to the overall daily performance is about recognising that Thomas's rise to second in GC is a more important result of the stage than Colbrelli coming 7th on the day.

A bit disappointing that I had the same thing throughout the Giro game (as the purplish points) and only one person indicated any uncertainty about it: I explained it at length and asked what people thought and whether we should stick with the change.

I thought this would make it more like the year long game, with its weekly green jersey competition.

So, rest day poll: guaranteed points or daily positions for green points?

Shouldnt the green jersey classifications be the points you actually get on the day, with riders scoring quarenteed points? Not that + the changes happening on GC.

That is what it was until this year. I changed it:
A) to make it more similar to the minor rankings in the classics and season long games (it is how that week/day affects your final score turned into a daily ranking);
B) to make the daily rankings reflect what is actually significant in the race and in the main game (so yesterday, Thomas's gains were more significant than Colbrelli's);
C) to avoid the daily yellow jersey bonus having disproportionate influence (although the three wearers so far in this edition have all been unpicked).
